DON L. NICHOLS

CENTRAL — Mr. Don Lyman Nichols, 60, husband of Maricel Labrador Nichols, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late James Carl Nichols and the late Emma Bagwell Nichols, Mr. Nichols was a graduate of Easley High School and was employed with Champion Aerospace LLC. He attended Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Don had a love and passion for motorcycles, but his greatest love was for his family and his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Christopher Erik Nichols (Brittany) of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Brandy Melissa Nichols Lollis (Frank) of Central; two sisters, Pamela Sue Stancil (Joey), and Marylin Faye Brunson (Kenneth), both of Pickens; seven grandchildren, Brandon Lollis, Dylan Lollis, Ryan Lollis, Sarah Lollis, Ella Nichols, Caroline Nichols and Wyatt Nichols; and one great-grandchild, Zoey Lollis.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was predeceased by a brother, James Kenneth Nichols.

Graveside services were held on Dec. 27 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Family members are at their respective homes.

CATHY C. BHATTACHARJEE

EASLEY — Mrs. Cathy Clark Bhattacharjee, 61, wife of Shyamal “Sam” Battacharjee, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, the daughter of Virginia Starkey Clark of Easley and the late John Alvin Clark, Mrs. Bhattacharjee was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College, where she received her bachelor’s degree, and retired from Sava Health.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 36 years, and her mother, are a son, Brandon Bhattacharjee of Houston, Texas; And a granddaughter, Emily Bhattacharjee.

DOYLE E. JOHNSON

EASLEY — Mr. Doyle Edmond Johnson, 87, husband of the late Frances Elizabeth Thomason Johnson, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Albert Franklin Johnson and the late Mettie Finley Johnson Ball, Mr. Johnson was a retired carpenter and a member of Galilee Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are a son, John T. Johnson (Ashli) of Powdersville; a brother, Olin Johnson (Bobbie) of Easley; a sister, Dorothy Sink of Liberty; a granddaughter, Victoria Jade Johnson of Powdersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Black.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 27 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in the Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, John and Ashli Johnson.

BRENDA FAYE GARRETT

EASLEY — Brenda Faye Garrett, 77, passed Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at her home in Easley after an extended illness.

Mrs. Garrett was born on April 2, 1942, in Easley to the late Jep and Geneva Suddeth. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Suddeth of Rosman, N.C. She was a retired employee of Hardees, Dayco, and Liberty Elementary School.

She is survived by her four sons; Ricky Garrett, Randy Garrett, Rusty Garrett, and Runt Garrett, four grandsons and one precious grand-daughter. She is also survived by her sister- in-law and best friend, Mary Leslie, lifelong friends; Brenda Bagwell Gatlin and Becky Gardo.

Graveside services were held on Dec. 31 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

FRANK MICHAEL CHOLEWINSKI

SENECA — Frank Michael Cholewinski, 85, transitioned his physical body on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., to Lillian Helen Wilusz (Chapek) and Casimir Cholewinski. After serving in the Korean War as a Marine, Frank was happily married for 62 years to the love of his life, Myrtie Alice Roberts. He received his BS in engineering physics and MS in applied mathematics from Auburn University, and he completed his doctoral degree in analysis at Washington University in 1964. He taught advanced mathematics at Clemson University for 32 years.

He published some of his work, including a book on Contemporary Mathematics: The Finite Calculus Associated with Bessel Functions. He enjoyed writing and analysis of math theorems, nutritional health and farming. He had a huge heart and love of family. He especially enjoyed taking care of his many dogs and animals. After retirement, he continued his research in math.

He had three known siblings, Teresa Eve Cholewinski Romano, Marie Marcelli Cholewinski Willborn and Joseph Richard Chapek; four children, Christine Murphy (Tim), Helen Gomez (Raul), Sarah Cholewinski (Keith McCorkle) and Frank Cholewinski; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Brown-Oglesby funeral home.

W. CHARLES CHASTAIN

EASLEY — Willie “Charles” Chastain, 86, of Highland Road, husband of Marjorie Duvall Chastain and the late Opal Virginia Crowe Chastain, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Willie and Lillian Stephens Chastain.

Mr. Chastain was the owner and operator of Chastain Supply Plumbing and Electrical Company and other associated companies for many years. In the late 1960s, he opened The City Café in Pickens and was an officer with the Pickens Police Department. He was a member and twice past master of the Bates Masonic Lodge 189 A.F.M., member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, past commander of the American Legion Post 52 and was a member of the Easley VFW Post 1089 and attended Park Street Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and with the South Carolina National Guard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Linda M. Bridges (Anthony) and Susan Sheridan (Andy), all of Easley; grandchildren, Josh Bridges (Cecily), Ashley Sheridan Love (Michael) and Matthew Bridges; great grandchildren, Chloe, Claire, Larke, Annie and Conner; and a sister, Sara E. Howard of Easley.

A memorial service was held on Dec. 29 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

ROBIN R. PRATER

EASLEY — Robin Renee Prater, 58, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Grundy, Va., she was a daughter of the late Paul P. Prater and the late Mildred Brown Adkins.

Robin was a 1981 graduate of Easley High School and was a member of Marathon Community Church. Surviving are a sister, Amy Adkins of Easley; a brother, Gary Prater of Grundy, Va.; and her companion, Terry Rosemond of Easley.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Oscar Adkins; and brothers, Lundy Prater and Paul Randall Prater.

A graveside service was held on Dec. 28 in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley. The family will be at the home of David and Joanell Winchester, 166 Burns Hill, Liberty, SC 29657.

DEBORAH JEAN LINVILLE HULSEY

PICKENS — Deborah Jean Linville Hulsey, 66, went to Heaven to rock her sweet baby on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born on Nov. 6, 1953, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was the proud daughter of Rufus Johnson Linville and Edna Ernestine Landers Linville. Deborah was an only daughter out of five children.

She loved both parents dearly and appreciated their dedication in raising her and her siblings. She and her husband were the owners of Professional Janitorial Services. Deborah was a member of Eastatoe Baptist Church, where she was assistant piano player. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and singing in a gospel band called “The Old Gospel Boys.” She had an outgoing personality, never meeting a stranger. She enjoyed family gatherings and was devoted to her family, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Deborah is survived by her husband of 43 years, Bobby Hulsey; three children; two brothers; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one child and two brothers.

A graveside service was held on Dec. 30 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley, with the Rev. Wilburn Snyder officiating.

PATRICIA “PATSY” M. ROGERS

EASLEY — Mrs. Patricia Jane “Patsy” Macdonald Rogers, 84, wife of Dr. Dexter B. Rogers, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at The Pearl at Five Forks in Simpsonville.

Born in Moultrie, Ga., a daughter, of the late Dr. Malcolm Alexander Macdonald and the late Annette Carlton Macdonald, Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she received her bachelor’s degree in home economics, and belonged to the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a former county home demonstration agent for the state of Georgia and taught home economics at Thornwell School in Clinton.

Mrs. Rogers was an active and hard-working member of Easley Presbyterian Church, where she served on the church building committee and church missions. She was a member and past president of the Dorothy O. Scott Garden Club.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 60 years, are two sons, Marvin Luther Rogers (Marjorie) of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Dr. Malcolm Macdonald Rogers (Melissa) of Easley; a daughter, Rev. Dr. Annette Carlton Rogers-Vaughn (Bruce) of Franklin, Tenn.; and seven grandsons.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was predeceased by a sister, Anne Macdonald Lee Setliff.

Memorial services were held on Dec. 26 at Easley Presbyterian Church. The present and past members of the Dorothy O. Scott Garden Club will serve as escorts of honor.

A private committal service will be held in Westview Cemetery, Easley.

HAROLD F. HUTCHINSON III

LIBERTY — Harold F. Hutchinson III, 65, of 101 Forrester Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at his residence.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the husband of Danielle Bovis Hutchinson of the home and a son of the late Harold F. Hutchinson Jr. and Florence Hamalainen Hutchinson. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a senior chief. He had a love for the water and enjoyed boating and building models of boats.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Jennifer and Jill, both of Georgia; two stepdaughters, Linda and Denise, both of New Jersey; a stepson, John of Andrews AFB; three sisters, Diane and Laurie, both of New Jersey and Florence of Arizona; a brother, Bob of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time. The family will be at the residence.

MICHAEL KENNETH MCCOY SR.

EASLEY — Mr. Michael “Mike” Kenneth McCoy Sr., 77, husband of Marlene Masters McCoy, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Dec. 20, 2019.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Kenneth E. McCoy and the late Thelma Gaines McCoy, Mr. McCoy was a 1960 graduate of Easley High School and later received his associate degree from Greenville Technical College. Mike retired from the Oconee Nuclear Plant of Duke Power as an environmental chemist with 20 years of service. He was a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 52 and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mike had a love and passion for golfing and sports, having refereed high school football, basketball and baseball, along with coaching little league sports for many years. He was an official staff member of the Clemson football chain crew for 20 years, and an avid Clemson fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 53 years, are two daughters, Angela M. Jones (Charles), and Jill L. McCoy, both of Easley; and three grandchildren, Michael Charles Jones, and twins, Lydia and Maeve Jones.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCoy was predeceased by his son, Michael Kenneth McCoy II; and his brother, Joe William McCoy.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family is at the home.
