STANLEY ROBERT ‘BUCKY’ O’SHEAL

WESTMINSTER — Stanley Robert “Bucky” O’Sheal, 61, husband of Susan Renea Pearson O’Sheal, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025.

A native of Oconee County, Mr. O’Sheal was the son of Jeri O’Sheal and the late Bobby O’Sheal. Bucky was a member of the Pendleton Masonic Lodge and Cross Roads Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. O’Sheal is survived by his son; Jeremy Dustin O’Sheal (Katie) of Charleston; grandchildren; Cohen, Irelynn and Marina.

In addition to his father, Mr. O’Sheal was preceded in death by a daughter; Tara Ashley O’Sheal; and sister, Robin O’Sheal.

Funeral services were held on July 24, at Davenport Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family is at their respective homes.

 

VIRGINIA PATRICIA MONTGOMERY BONEY

PICKENS — Virginia Patricia Montgomery Boney, 93, known to family and friends as “Pat”, died peacefully at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca on July, 21, 2025. Pat was the widow of George C Boney of Pickens, and the daughter of the late James Andrew Montgomery and the late Geneva Cannon Montgomery of Lane S.C.

Pat attended schools in Williamsburg County, graduating from Kingstree High School in 1949. She briefly attended Winthrop College but returned home to allow her sister to attend nursing school. Pat worked as a bookkeeper, first at Kingstree Tobacco Warehouse, later at Santee Electric Co-op. She met George in Kingstree and they married in 1952. A change in George’s job situation brought them to Pickens in 1954. Pat eventually went to work with SCN Bank, retiring from Wachovia in 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia D Boney of Pickens; her son, George C Boney (Ellen) of Chapin, S.C. and Robert M. Boney (Sheila Smith) of Niceville, Fla. Grandchildren are Hanna Elizabeth Montgomery (Christian) of San Diego, Calif., George W. Boney of Clemson and Emerson Sofia Smith of Niceville Fla. She had one one great-grandchild, Theodore James Montgomery of San Diego, Calif.

In addition to her husband and parents, Pat was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn M Moss of Ind.; four brothers, Arthur A Montgomery of Columbia, William Belton Montgomery “Billy” of Lane S.C. and two that died in infancy.

A funeral service was conducted on July 25, at Pickens Presbyterian Church, 311 W Main St, Pickens, SC 29671.

Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pickens Presbyterian Church.

 

CHRIS JONES

LIBERTY — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Chrisley Jones, who left this world peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on May 13, 1932, in Green River, N.C., he was a son of the late JW and Carrie Lee Ruppe Jones.

Chris lived a life filled with love, hard work, and lasting memories. A devoted carpenter who proudly worked for Garrett Construction for many years, where he was known for his skillful hands and kind spirit.

His warmth and generosity touched the lives of many who had the privilege of knowing him. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by a brother, Raymond Jones and sisters, June Galloway and Viola Tate. Also surviving is a special niece and caregiver, Evelyn Smith, and numerous other nieces and nephews, and special friends, Bennie and Sherry Chapman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Estelle Smith, Pauline Jones, Irene Dodgens, and Christine Smith, and a brother, Boyce Jones.

Funeral services to honor Chris’s life were held July 29, at the Liberty Mortuary chapel.  Burial took place at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Ruhamah Baptist Church, 1610 Red Barn Road, Liberty SC 29657.

SHIRLEY ANN NEWTON LOVINGGOOD

PICKENS — Shirley Ann Newton Lovinggood, 87, loving wife to the late George M. Lovinggood, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born Jan. 20, 1938, in Pickens County, Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. Norman J. Newton and Mildred Black Newton. A devoted member of Pickens First Baptist Church, Shirley found great joy in singing in the church choir and actively participating in the Women’s Club during her earlier years.

A generous and community-minded woman, Shirley gave freely of her time and energy, volunteering at Cannon Memorial Hospital, the Pickens County YMCA, and Curves Women’s Health and Fitness Club. Her dedication to serving others reflected the kindness and strength of her character.

Professionally, Shirley was a talented cosmetologist and hair stylist who owned and operated her own beauty shop in Pickens for many years. With a warm smile and a creative touch, she built lasting relationships with her clients and took great pride in helping others feel their best.

Shirley will be remembered for her deep faith, her servant’s heart, and her unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.

Survivors include her son, James Lee “Jim” Lovinggood (Denise) of Pendleton; son-in-law, Marty Harris of Pickens; grandchildren, Wes Hiott (Lindsey), Josh Hiott, Brett Harris, Nicole Meares (Brandon), Jonathan Lovinggood (Taylor); and great-grandchildren, Eva Hiott, Hadley Hiott, Hayes Hiott, Will Meares, Leah Meares and Harper Lovinggood; and brothers, Daniel “Danny” Newton (Sheila) and Pat Maxwell.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lovinggood was predeceased by her daughter, Debra Marie “Debbie” Harris, and her brother, Wayne Eugene Newton.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

HAZEL GENEVA  TROTTER TURNER

PICKENS — Hazel Geneva Trotter Turner, 92, passed away at home, surrounded by loving family, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1932, in Pickens, to the late Dessa and Luther Trotter.

Hazel was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her family deeply adored her and will greatly miss her warm sense of humor. She had a special gift for making every meal more delicious than the last. In her free time, Hazel found joy in completing crossword puzzles.

A faithful and esteemed member of Antioch Baptist Church, Hazel found joy in teaching Sunday school and sharing her love for Christ with others.

Hazel is survived by her son, Wayne Turner; grandchildren, Sandy, Jimmy and Doug; great-grandchildren, Selena, Jessica and Katelyn; and great-great grandchildren, Savannah, Logan, Bryan, Dameon, Skylar and Juliette. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill, Alton, Gene, Mack and J.C. Trotter.

In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her husband James William Turner, and sisters, Reba Ellenburg and Lavon “Bonnie” Stewart.

Services for Hazel were held at Antioch Baptist Church on July 25.

Dillard Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.

 

JAMES VIRGIL BLANTON

EASLEY — James Virgil Blanton, 83, of Easley, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Jackson County, N.C. He was the son of the late James Monroe Blanton and Frankie Lee Queen Blanton of Whittier, N.C. He retired from Michelin on Oct. 1, 2000, with 24 years of service. James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was loved by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James is survived by his four children; Lewis Blanton (Kim), Marcia Nalley (Chris), Keith Blanton (Kerri) and Stanley Blanton (Christy), as well as 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Frankie Blanton, his brother, Robert Blanton, and an infant grandson, Michael Blanton.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

TERRY L. WOOTEN

WILLIAMSTON — Terry L. Wooten, 65, husband of Elaine Anschutz Wooten, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Born in Salem, he was a son of the late Paul Simmons and the late Mildred Finley Simmons.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was an avid bowler, and he enjoyed Clemson Football, classic cars, woodworking, crafting and spending time with his friends and family. Terry retired from Ryobi of Pickens after 15 years of service.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by sons, Jonathan Anschutz, Shaun Wooten (Angel), Travis Wooten (Ashley Hopkins) and Jonathan Wooten; sister-in-law, Michelle Wise McClure (Scott); siblings, Brenda Elrod and Pat Wooten; grandchildren, Katherine Stewart, Elana Stewart, Isabella Stewart, Elijah Wooten and Ember Wooten; nephew, Jamie Wooten; niece, Cindy Wooten; friends, Nettie Foster, Gaylon Hart (Gaylord) and wife Jo-Ann, Delas “D.J.” House and Danny Childress; and many other friends and family members.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Ricky Dean Wooten and Roger Dale Wooten.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., August 1, in the chapel of Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC 29607.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday at Palmetto Mortuary, prior to the service.

 

RONALD JEFFREY ‘JEFF’ DOVER

ROSHARON, TEXAS — Ronald Jeffery Dover “Jeff”, 62, loving husband of 38 years to Gale Dover, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Angleton Danbury Hospital.

Jeff was born on Dec. 12, 1962, in Easley, to the late Billy Raymond Dover and Cecil Chapman Yates. He had a deep love for the outdoors—fishing, hunting, playing ball and spending time in the mountains brought him peace and happiness. Jeff found true joy in helping others and was always willing to lend a hand. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, and took great pride in raising his grandson.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gale Dover; his daughter, Jennifer Segers of Cateechee; and two sons, Jason Dover and Elijah Dover, both of Liberty.

Jeff was a proud grandfather to Brittany, Jessica and Lillie; and a beloved great-grandfather to Logan, Levi and Alliegale.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Holden of Liberty and Phyllis Bagwell of Cateechee.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dover was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Dover; and a brother, Mike Dover.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

CHRISTA GALLOWAY

EASLEY — Christa Galloway, 54, loving wife of 24 years to Zane Galloway, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Christa was born on July 17, 1971, in Easley, to the late Kenneth Watkins and Linda Spearman Watkins Holmes. A devoted member of Landmark Baptist Church, Christa found great joy in her faith, her family, and her many creative pursuits. She had a passion for crafts—especially crocheting, quilting, and jewelry-making—and delighted in sharing her handmade creations with those she loved. Above all, Christa cherished her church community and adored her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Zane Galloway of the home; her son, Joshua Watkins (Meghan) of Six Mile; and three cherished grandchildren, Levi, Kensleigh and Andrew Watkins. She is also survived by her siblings, Melisa Cox (David) of Easley, Rodney Raby (Leann) of Pickens and Travis Raby (Jill) of Easley; along with many loving and caring nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Galloway was predeceased by her daughter Kayla Renee Watkins and a sister, Sandra Jean Watkins.

STANLEY PIRNES

LIBERTY — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stanley Charles Pirnes, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born on March 4, 1931, in Hibbing, Minn., he was the widower of Genelle Robinson Pirnes and a son of the late Charles A. and Mary Hill Pirnes.

He was a devoted father and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served honorably for 20 years, including tours of duty in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars.

He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters; Lori Dent (Michael), Patti Shirley (George) and Debbie Chase (Don); also surviving are three grandchildren, Ethan Dent, Andrew Dent and Katie Shirley.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Lagerquist.

He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather; a source of laughter, and love for his family. He will forever be remembered especially by his son in law for his favorite saying, “I know you’ve got your own ideas but…”.

In addition to his military service, he had a passion for restoring old cars, often spending countless hours in the garage bringing forgotten treasures back to life. He also found joy in bowling and golf, where he cherished the camaraderie of friends and family. Whether he was swinging a club or sharing a dance step, Stanley embraced life with open arms and a joyful spirit.

Graveside services with military honors were held July 25, at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

No formal visitation were held; however, he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.

Mr. Pirnes will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and joy in life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
