Tigers ends Lions’ upper state streak

GREENVILLE — Behind 2-0 and down one player due to a first half red card, the Daniel High School boys soccer team look like its hopes were fading in the final minutes of its third round battle with Southside on Wednesday night.

The Lions were able to find some heart with a sensational goal from freshman Marcos Moore in the 70th minute, but were still overmanned and forced to press the Tigers. Daniel girls stunned by Dreher in round three

CENTRAL — Falling behind 3-1 in the first half of their third round matchup with Dreher, the Daniel High School girls soccer team was in need of a big effort if it hoped to keep its season alive on Tuesday night.

The top-seeded Lady Lions were able to cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the second half, but just couldn’t muster enough chances down the stretch as they fell to the Blue Devils.

“We came out in the second half and the girls responded well.” Daniel head coach Chad Perry said. “They gave themselves a chance, and that’s all we really were asking for.”

County denies phase five of speedway development plan

PICKENS — The Pickens County Planning Commission denied a proposed Phase 5 of a huge business park in Easley Monday, citing several ways the development did not comply with the county’s Comprehensive Plan and other ordinances.

This was the second time the Commission has denied approval for Phase 5, and this one has a finality to it the earlier decision in March did not.

It also appears to block Greenville developer RealtyLink’s plan to demolish the historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway and replace it with more industrial facilities in Phases 3 and 4, part of its mammoth Speedway Business & Industrial Park at the intersection of Highways 123 and
