Historic display headed to Pickens

PICKENS — A display of some of the nation’s founding documents will be installed at the amphitheater property in Pickens.

During their special called meeting May 6, Pickens City Council members discussed a request from State Sen. Rex Rice about a Charters of Freedom display.

In a memo to council included in the meeting packet, city administrator Tim O’Briant wrote that Charters of Freedom is a national effort “aimed at installing monument displays of the nation’s founding documents … in public spaces to promote civic education and historical awareness.”

Demolitions to expand county courthouse parking

Pickens High Class of 1976 celebrates 50th reunion

It was a beautiful day last Saturday as the Pickens High School Class of 1976 hosted its 50th class reunion at the Hagood Mill Pavilion in Pickens on May 9. The event gave Blue Flame alumni a chance to reminisce and enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner. Harden Scholarship winner announced

PICKENS — The scholarship committee of the Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary proudly announces Charlee Blankenship as the Winner of the 2026 Dr. John Harden Scholarship.

Charlee is the daughter of Tommy and Sandee Blankenship. Charlee is a senior at Pickens High School.

She is involved in her school and athletics including Varsity Girls Tennis and Varsity Girls Soccer and was named Captain of both teams during her Senior Year.

She is also actively involved in many community service projects and local church activities.

The scholarship committee wishes to congratulate Charlee and wish her much success in healthcare.

COUNTY — Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship has asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to investigate after a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested by the Easley Police Department on multiple charges, including DUI, hit and run, and drug possession with intent to distribute.

Easley bridge to close for rehab work

EASLEY — The bridge over the Saluda River on S.C. Highway 124 is expected to be closed for nearly two weeks for rehab work.
