‘A Murder Is Announced’ to open
EASLEY — It is Friday, Oct. 13, in the sleepy village of Chipping Cleghorn, England. A mysterious advertisement has been placed in the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette that has caused a panic at the Little Paddock Home of Miss Letitia Blacklock. Someone has announced that a murder will take place at the home at 6:30 that very evening.

Red Devils off to hot start in region action

LIBERTY — One year removed from an Upper State championship appearance and facing the challenge of playing in a new region this fall, the Liberty High 
School volleyball team doesn’t appear to have lost a step in an unbeaten start to region play.

Pickens defense stymies Liberty in final test before region play

LIBERTY — The Pickens Blue Flame could not have asked for a more beautiful fall evening to play football.
After dropping its previous two contests against Southside and Daniel, Pickens looked to get back in the win column as it traveled

Easley drops Southside for first four-game win streak since ‘12

GREENVILLE — The Easley Green Wave checked off a lot of boxes Friday night against Southside.
- Win a fourth consecutive game.
- Pitch a shutout on defense.
- Play a relatively clean game in winning the final non-region game, 42-0.
“I thought we played well,” Easley coach Jordan Durrah said. “I thought the kids showed a lot of focus. They showed a lot of attention to detail. I thought we executed on both sides of the ball and thought we performed well on special teams. Obviously it

Lions demolish Riverside to remain unbeaten

previous two games, the Lions couldn’t manage to pull away over the first 20 minutes of action.

PICKENS — A large crowd gathered on Tuesday morning in front of the Pickens office of Buddy Cox to honor the man known throughout the Upstate as “Country Santa.”
Unbeknownst to Cox, the group was there to thank the humble Pumpkintown resident for the many years of work he has done in bringing smiles to children in the area during Christmastime and to see him receive South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto.

Upcountry Fiber starts foundation
UPSTATE — A golf tournament held Monday aimed to raise seed money for the endowment of a new foundation created by two companies that have teamed up to bring high-speed broadband internet service to rural areas of the Upstate.
The inaugural Upcountry Fiber Foundation Charity Classic was held at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards, according to a news release.
