PICKENS — Mr. George Boney, 95, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at his home.

George was born in Cades on Dec. 6, 1926, to the late George and Lucy Bracy Boney. He went to school in Sumter and graduated from Edmunds High School in June 1944.

George served in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force. He worked as a watchmaker at Pace Jewelers in Pickens from 1954 until he retired. George was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the men’s chorus. He also served on the Pickens City Council from 1983-2003.

ROGER JOHN LINDSAY

PICKENS — Mr. Roger John Lindsay, 82, loving husband of Judy Lindsay, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2022, at his residence.

Roger was born in Spartanburg, on Feb. 23, 1940, to the late John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. In the 1950s, he held the South Carolina state high jump record for 10 years. KATHY YVONNE DINKINS

SPARTANBURG — Kathy Yvonne Dinkins, 59, died on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.

Kathy was born on May 7, 1963, in Fairfield County, to John and Jackie Dinkins.

Kathy was a dedicated ER nurse for 25 years. She continued her education through Chamberlain University and in 2015 obtained a master’s degree as a nurse practitioner.

She was a Christian woman with a gypsy soul. A descendant of civil rights leader Chief Standing Bear of the Ponca tribe, she was very proud and in tune with her Native American roots. Known for her restless energy, Kathy found many passions in life, including her family, raising horses, horseback riding, fitness, competing in triathlons, motorcycles, belly dancing, bicycling, the outdoors, art, singing and especially music. She loved all genres of music (much to the discomfort of others). During the last few years of her life, she remained faithful to her commitment as primary caretaker of her handicapped brother, John.

Always open minded toward new experiences and connections, she was a stranger to nobody and made memorable friendships with people of all walks of life, everywhere she went. Never a dull moment and always on the go.

Even in her “downtime,” she could be found at home rearranging furniture, sipping coffee, burning “sage” and blasting Pearl Jam.

Kathy is survived by her children, Kendra, Brian and Ashley; her 11 grandchildren; and her brother, John Dinkins.

SIX MILE — Annie Laverne Stancil McGaha, 83, passed away on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at her home.

Laverne was born on Sept. 24, 1939, to the late Leo and Essie Durham Stancil. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tigers. Laverne’s faith was very important to her, and she attended Crowe Creek Church of God. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

EASLEY — Ruby Cassell Simmons, 88, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at her home surrounded by family.

PICKENS — Gary Douglas Holcombe, 79, loving husband of 61 years to Audrey Robinia “Robin” Green Holcombe, passed away on Oct. 1, 2022, at his home.

A native of Pickens County, Gary was born on Oct. 27, 1942, the son of the late Ernest Holcombe and Inez Franks Holcombe. He was employed at Singer/Ryobi for 32 years.

EASLEY — Mrs. Effie Lee Dobson, 98, of 507 S. B. Street, widow of Edward Dobson, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022.
