Liberty — Bonnie Curtis died Saturday Oct. 11, 2014.

She was the daughter of Ernest and Clara Lee. Having devoted herself to home and family, Bonnie considered her greatest accomplishments to be raising her five daughters and being a wonderful grandmother to all of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Some of her greatest joys included spending time with her grandchildren, going for long rides in the mountains with her family, and watching birds out her kitchen window.  Known to her grandchildren as “Granny,” she always had a dollar, a treat or a surprise to give them in exchange for a big hug.  Her family always looked forward to eating her delicious homemade biscuits, fried chicken and banana pudding. Bonnie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church for over 40 years.  Her faith was unwavering and in her last hours she was comforted by God’s promises, the prayers of her pastor and family and the comfort of knowing that Heaven was ready to welcome her home.

She is survived by her sisters, Geneva, Doris, Cathy and Dianne and a brother Walter Lee. Also surviving is her husband of 62 years Charles Curtis, her five daughters, Debra Gilstrap of Easley, Genell Cortright, of Greenville, Gayle Esancy of Pickens, Teresa “Charlene” McCall of Liberty and Rebecca Farmer of Travelers Rest. Bonnie was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grand-children.

Funeral services were Wednesday Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., at Roanoke Baptist Church, 400 Roanoke Rd. Liberty.  Her grandsons, Mark Esancy and Bryan Cole, Pastor Jack Shook and the Rev. Gary Gwinn shared the message of hope.   Burial was at Roanoke Baptist Church.

Jodie Rampey

cENTRAL — jodie Forrester Rampey, 82, of 145 Kelly Mill Road, wife of the late Wayne W. Rampey, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Born in Anderson County, the daughter of the late Alvero Richard and Mabel Duncan Forrester, Mrs. Rampey retired from ECP and was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Mike Rampey ( Tateasa) of Monroe, Ga.; a daughter, Sharon Summey (Tim) of Piedmont; two brothers, Raymond Forrester of Ariz., and Shelby Forrester of Miss.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cooper was predeceased by two sons, Steve Rampey and Roger Rampey, a brother, Ronald Forrester, a sister, Caroline, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church in Norris. Burial followed in Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

The family is at the home of Sharon and Tim Summey, 301 Riverside Drive, Piedmont, SC 29673.

Linda C. Williams

Easley — Linda Childress Williams, 65, of 304 Henry Street, wife of the late Arlon “Fluffy” Williams, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Truman Childress and the late Ethel Reese Childress Price, Linda was formerly employed with Goodwill Industries and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a son, Jeff Jennings of Easley; a daughter, Kelly Parton (Joey) of Easley; a brother, Charles T. Childress (Smokey) of Piedmont; a step-daughter, Jessica Williams Parton of Gaffney; a special friend, Tommy Galloway of Easley; and two grandchildren, Kain Parton and Kaleb Parton.

Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Visitation was from 5 until 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service. The family is at the residence.

DEBBIE YATES (Robin)

Pickens — Robin Debbie Yates, 58, of 1256 Gravely Road, died on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at her home.

Born in Greenville she was a daughter of the late Verlon M. Chandler. Previously she worked in real estate, and at Family Owned Cleaners in Pickens. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Tarrah Yates Fisher, her husband Chad and their children Haley and Chandler Fisher of the home; her mother and step father, Carolyn H. Cooley, and Harold of Belton; a sister, Tammy Alewine of Fountain Inn; four brothers, Dennis Chandler of Pickens, Greg Chandler of Easley, Scott Cooley of Williamston, and Kevin Cooley of Lyman; three brother in laws, Daniel and Doug Yates both of Pickens, and Jerry Yates of Camden; a niece, Krystal Chandler Robinson; and two special nephews, Will Cooley and Shane Yates; and several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mrs. Yates were 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

GUY WOOD

Liberty — Guy William Wood, 85, of 275 Winding Creek Road, died Monday at his residence.

Born in Easley, he was the son of the late Lee and Melvina Rogers Wood. He was retired from BASF Corp. and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Childress Wood of the home; three daughters, Guynelle Randle (Richard) of Norris, Janice Knight of Norris and Margaret Wood of the home; two sons, Scott Wood of Huntersville, N.C. and Jon Wood (Amanda) of Easley; a son in law, Ray Fisher; a sister, Sue Summerall of Missouri; eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Fisher; four sisters, Lillie Triste, Vera Moore, Geraldine Evette and Frances Stansell; and three brothers, Charles, Garland and Lonnie Wood.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Wood was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Tommy Hayes conducted the service.

John W. Lyons

Easley — Mr. John Welmer Lyons, 88, husband of Wanda Gravely Lyons, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville.
Born in Anderson County, the son of the late Artice and Minnie Orr Lyons, Mr. Lyons retired from Roadway Express with 31 years of service and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 33 years, are two sons, Charles D. Lyons (Debbie) of Greenville, and Robert Lyons of Easley; a daughter, Gwen Benjamin of Greenville; and a special friend, Rene Roberson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lyons was predeceased by two sons, Danny and Richard Lyons; and two grandchildren, Tina and Dana Lyons.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow at Mt. Airy Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the residence.

Eric Clark

Pickens — Donald Eric Clark, 33, of 515 Boundary Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014.

Born in Easley, he was the son of Donnie and Ann Wood Clark of Pickens.

Eric was employed with Cherokee Masonry and worked part-time with Watson Construction. He was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Chad Clark (Jennifer) of Easley; and grandmother, Bernice Wood.

Eric was predeceased by his grandparents, Walter and Mary “Tillie” Clark and Noah Wood.

A service to celebrate Eric’s life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge View Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.

Tammy H. Miller

Easley — Tammy Hawley Miller, 41, of 519 Jessica Court, died Monday Oct. 6, 2014 at her home. Born in Johnson City, N.Y., Tammy was a daughter of Lorna Hines Hawley of Forest City, N.C., and the late Fred Hawley. She was a graduate of Concord Career Institute in Tampa Fla., and a personal care attendant for Cerabel Palsey patients. Tammy was a member of Praise Sanctuary in Liberty.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Ian Miller of Easley; a daughter, Monica Lewandowski of Easley; and three sisters, Leonice Laranjeiras of Canada, Amy Fonts of Oregon and April Herndon of North Carolina.

Funeral Services were 4 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown. Burial followed in Abbott Cemetery, Liberty.

Grady Eugene Watson

Greenville — Grady Eugene Watson, 93, of Greenville, died Oct. 1, 2014, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

He grew up in Pickens County as the son of the late Leo and Sallie Watson of Six Mile. For 56 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Louise Cassell Watson until her death in 2004. Grady spent his career in banking and finance at the South Carolina National Bank, C. Douglas Wilson Company and NCNB. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific in World War II before marrying Louise Cassell in 1947. They lived in Greenville and had two daughters who graduated from Clemson University and spent their careers in education. Grady was an avid Clemson fan. He was a long-time member of Northgate Baptist Church and served as the treasurer of the Pleasantburg Lions’ Club for 47 years.

Grady is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Barton (Johnny) of Greenville and Gayle Thurn (Brad) of Powdersville; his grandsons, James Thurn (Jenna) of Easley and Ryan Thurn of Greenville; and his sister; Ruth Owen of Greenville.

The funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Greenville with interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Charles Boiter

Liberty — Charles James Lewis Boiter, 77, of 214 Betty Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Thomas and Sybil Smith Boiter. He was retired from Platt Saco Lowell. He was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are two sons, Tony Boiter(Jean) of Liberty and Gary Boiter of Easley; three sisters, Shirley Bolding of Easley, Kathy Wyatt of Dacusville, and Linda Gilstrap of Greenville. Eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan, Mike, Dale Travis and Jessica Boiter, Jennifer Dixon and Jenna Youmans; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son, Dennis Boiter; and a half brother, Gene Boiter.

Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Boiter will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Greenville.

Frances Reeves Massingill

Easley — Frances Reeves Massingill, 75, widow of Ray Lewis Massingill died Wednesday Oct. 8, 2014.

Born in Piedmont, Mrs. Massingill was the daughter of the late Richard Iler “Pat” and Florence Mildred Simmons Reeves. She graduated from Piedmont High School, Class of 1957, and she retired from The Willows of Easley. Mrs. Massingill was a long time member of Park Street Baptist Church, where she lived a life of Christian Service as a Sunday School teacher and president of the Women’s Missionary Union.

Surviving are two sons, Chris Massingill of Easley, and Robin Massingill (Diane) of Woodruff; a daughter, Vonda Cooley (Bruce) of Abbeville; two brothers, Marcus Reeves of Pickens and Harvey “Buck” Reeves of Vacaville, Calif. She was affectionately known and loved as Grandma by Ethan, Rachel, and Bethany Massingill of Woodruff; and Ma by Adriana, Cara, and Jonah Cooley of Abbeville.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at Park Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Alton Nix and the Rev. Bruce Cooley officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Rev. Mickey Thomas

Pickens — The Rev. Mitchell Sylvester “Mickey” Thomas, 65, husband of Sandra Lewis Thomas of Pumpkintown, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014.

The Rev. Thomas was born in Greenville County, a son of the late Nelson and Bessie Reece Thomas. For many years, he operated Mickey’s Garage in Pumpkintown and has continued his lifelong love of restoring old and classic cars. Upon receiving the call to preach he served North Fork Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, Highland Baptist Church in Taylors, and retired from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Pickens. After retirement, he continued to serve as a supply minister and when called upon conducted weddings and funerals. The Rev. Thomas was one of the founding fathers of the Pumpkintown Fire Department where he was still active.

He served as Chief of Gowansville, and Glassy Mountain Fire Departments. He also volunteered at Tigerville Fire Department. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving as a chemical specialist in Korea during the Vietnam War. Mickey was a Past Master of Keowee Lodge, #79, A.F.M. He was also instrumental in helping to organize the first Pumpkin Festival. Mickey had a passion for helping people during difficult times. He volunteered with the Red Cross for several years at many fire scenes as well as during wildfires in Calfornia and other natural disasters. He also worked as an EMT and First Responder in Pickens County. Mickey was greatly loved and respected by his family, friends, and community. His kindness and willingness to help others touched the lives of all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sandra, of the home, son, Jacob “Jake” Thomas (Marie) of Pickens, and grandchildren, Emily, Alex, James, and Connor. Surviving also are brothers, Johnny Thomas (Caroline), Chester Thomas (Fran), and Jack Thomas (Mary), and sisters, Martha Ellenburg, Vivian Burgess, and Ellen Burgess.

In addition to his parents, The Rev. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell S. “Mitch” Thomas, Jr., grandson, Jeremy Thomas, and brothers, Charles and Melvin Thomas.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at Forestville Baptist Church with The Rev. Rob Jackson, the Rev. Carroll Plemmons, and the Rev. Derrel Robinson officiating. Burial followed at Oolenoy Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Malcolm Lance officiating.

Pinkie Newsome Hinton

Pickens — Pinkie Newsome Hinton, wife of the late Olar T. “Red” Hinton, Jr., died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014.

Born in Albany, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin R. Newsome and Adelaide Jones Newsome. She graduated from Pelham High School in Pelham, Ga. and attended Gordon College in Barnesville, Ga. Pinkie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Pickens where she served as Sunday School Teacher and was active in WMU Organizations. What brought her much happiness in life was being a wife, homemaker and mother to her son and daughter.

She is survived by her son Olar Thompson “Tommy” Hinton, III and his wife Kathy of Six Mile and daughter Ginger Corn and her husband Reverend Kenny Corn of Hendersonville, N.C., and grandsons, Tyler Corn of Dresden, Ohio and Dawson Corn of Concord, N.C.

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sisters Verlie Wincey and Irene Hiott and her brother Joseph A. Newsome and several dear nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hinton was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family would like to extend thanks to two very special caregivers, Tammy Nwankwo and Mary Jo Phail and to her very best friend Ellen Brown. The family would also like to express appreciation to Sitters Registry and Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Dillard Funeral Home, Pickens in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Sunrise Cemetery.
