CHARLES EUGENE BURKE

EASLEY — Charles Eugene Burke, 83, of Brushy Creek Road, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2021, at his youngest son’s home in Raleigh, N.C., after an extended illness.

Born in Cenchat, Ga., he grew up in Flintstone, Ga., and was a son of the late Frederick Eugene Burke of Cenchat, Ga., and Mary Kirksie Suit Cooke (Robert E. Cooke, stepfather) of Cenchat, Ga., and the grandson of the late John I. and Fanny P. Suit, both of Cenchat, Ga.

Mr. Burke retired as a master dergeant of the United States Air Force. After his military retirement, he attended Tri-County Tech and graduated as a manufacturing engineer. After graduation, he worked at Platt Saco Lowell and then later at Specialty Bar Products Company.

He was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church and the We Care Sunday School Class.

He enjoyed military history, aviation, playing guitar, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

Charles was married for 61 years to the late Marlene Browning Burke and is survived by his children, Timothy Eugene Burke (Rita) of Easley, Tammy Lee Rogers (Timothy) of Liberty and Thomas Charles Burke (Grace) of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Toby Burke (Ashley), Tyra Whitlock (Alex) and Connor Burke; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Cooper, Zander, Alora and Aria, all of Pickens Country. Also surviving are his brother, Gary Cooke (Cindy) of Ringgold, Ga.; sister, Roberta “Bobbie” Baker (Bobby, deceased) of Avilla, Ind.; and sister-in-law, Doris Keller (Jim) of Monroe, N.C.

He was also brother-in-law to the late Wilton and Joyce Browning of Kernersville, N.C.

A service to celebrate Mr. Burke’s life was held on Dec. 4 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, with full military honors burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

FLOYD JERRY DILLARD

EASLEY — Mr. Floyd Jerry Dillard, 81, husband of Janice Durham Dillard, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Andrew Bolt Dillard and the late Gladys Black Dillard, Mr. Dillard was a graduate of Easley High School and retired from Platt Saco Lowell with 42 years of service. He was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church and a U.S. Army National Guard veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, are his son, Floyd Bradley Dillard of Easley; and his grandson, Justin Dillard (Lauren) of Easley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dillard was predeceased by four brothers, Waymon Dillard, Cleo Dillard, Clyde Dillard and Paul Dillard; and his sister, Viola Porter.

Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 6, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

ROBERT M. ‘BOB’ GUERRERI

SIX MILE — Robert M. (Bob) Guerreri, 79, went to his eternal home on Nov. 28, 2021.

He was born in Hartford, Conn., to the late Frank and Hope Guerreri.

Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Stewart Guerreri; daughter, Amy Guerreri; brother, Richard (Barbara) Guerreri; nieces; nephews; and two very special cousins.

After graduating from Clemson University, Bob spent his working career in pharmaceutical and industrial sales, served as a lobbyist for the S.C. Electric Coop and was mayor of Six Mile. He loved people. Even in retirement, Bob chose part-time work at Home Depot and at Clemson University events to spend time with friends and meet new ones. Reading books was a passion, and he loved sharing them with his friends, as well as completing all of the crossword and sudoku puzzles he could find. He also served on the Mercy Ministry team at his church. Some of his hobbies included golfing, cooking Italian meals and deep sea fishing.

A memorial service, led by the Rev. Ken Lewis, will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, SC 29671. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2432 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, SC 29671. The family will be available to speak to guests at the mausoleum following the service.

MILDRED S. HARRIS

LIBERTY — Mildred Syphronia Guthrie Harris, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ruth Fowler Garmon.

Mrs. Harris was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Clemson. She was a dedicated member of Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy and was one of the original members of Helping Hands Children’s Home in Central, an organization near and dear to her heart. She was a pastor’s wife who loved sharing the word of God to everyone she met.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Rev. William Edward Harris; her children, Sherry L. Harris of Liberty, Cynthia Harris-Beckwith of Arizona, Dwight S. Harris of Cateechee, Pamela V. Morris and Naomi A. Harris, both of Easley, Timothy Harris of Norris and Court Young of Liberty; grandchildren, Rose (Kris), Matthew (Susie), Kathleen (Matt), Paul (Sara), Amber, Autumn, Cameo, Cory and T.J.; great-grandchildren, Mackenly, Jade, Tylor, Sofia, Lane, Mason, Cheyenne, Sebastian, Junior, Josalynn, Jazmine, Connor, J.W. and Bella; great-great-grandchildren, Addison and Tytus; a special cousin, Barbara Johnson; and her faithful companion, Fido.

Mrs. Harris was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her great-grandchildren, Kane, Malachi and Jessica; and her brother, William “Marvin” Gibbs.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 15 at Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy, with burial following in the church cemetery.

REV. WILLIAM EDWARD HARRIS

LIBERTY — In the early morning, while the world lay sleeping, our daddy, Rev. William Edward Harris was whisked away on angels’ wings to join his Heavenly Father, and our mother.

Reverend William Edward Harris, 84, beloved husband of the late Mildred Syphronia Guthrie Harris, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at his home.

William was born to the late Paul Reldon and Nettie Mae Reynolds Harris in Pickens County, on March 22, 1937. William was married to Mildred Syphronia Guthrie on Jan. 28, 1956. He worked some in textiles prior to being called into ministry. Rev. Harris was a pastor at The Church of God of Prophecy in Pickens, Marietta and Seneca. William was an active member of the Helping Hands Children’s Home, where he loved providing fruits and vegetables to the many children there. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his children, Sherry L. Harris of Liberty, Cynthia Harris-Beckwith (Jim) of Arizona, Dwight S. Harris of Cateechee, Pamela V. Morris and Naomi A. Harris, both of Easley, Timothy Harris of Norris and Court Young of Liberty; grandchildren, Rose (Kris), Matthew (Susie), Kathleen (Matt), Paul (Sara), Amber, Autumn, Cameo, Cory and T.J.; great-grandchildren, Mackenly, Jade, Tylor, Sofia, Lane, Mason, Cheyenne, Sebastian, Junior, Josalynn, Jazmine, Connor, J.W. and Bella; great-great-grandchildren, Addison and Tytus; his two brothers, Kenneth R. Harris and James A. Harris, both of Liberty; sisters, Doris H. Bennett (Ronnie) of Cottageville and Sandra H. Ford (Keith) of Easley; an aunt, Ruth Reynolds of Central; his faithful companion, Fido; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Rev. Harris was predeceased by brothers, Carl, Leroy and Joel; his sister, Clara; great-grandsons, Kane and Malachi; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 1 at Six Mile Church of God of Prophecy, with burial following in the church cemetery.

NINA SMITH

SIX MILE — Nina Gail Roberson Smith, 75, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at Cottingham Hospice House.

Born in Newport News, Va., as the daughter of the late William Gordon and Melba Whitehurst Roberson, she was the wife of Carson Ray Smith of 48 years. Nina retired from special education after 46 years from Lenoir County Schools in North Carolina. She was a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church and a former member of Grainger Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her son, Michael Smith of Greenville; and a sister, Judy Dierkes of Six Mile.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Clark Smith; and a brother, Timothy Roberson.

A memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church in Six Mile on Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at West View Cemetery in Kinston, N.C.

CYNTHIA DENISE DASSINGER

EASLEY — Cynthia Denise Dassinger, 66, of 233 Colonial Drive, died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at Prisma Health-Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Easley, she was the widow of Herbert Dassinger and a daughter of the late Furman and Patricia Simmons.

She retired from Fluor Daniel, where she worked as a millwright. Cynthia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Summerall of Easley; five grandchildren, Alex Summerall, Ashley Summerall, Lee Summerall, Josh Summerall and Sabrina Summerall; two sisters, Patti Sentell and Rebecca Grice; a brother, Kenneth Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Carson Summerall and Chloe Summerall.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Summerall; two sisters, Debra Pilgrim and Wanda McAlister; and a brother, Steve Simmons.

WADE THOMPSON

EASLEY — Wade Thompson, 85, husband of 62 years to Lillian Gertrude Thompson, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson.

A native of Anderson, Mr. Thompson was born on May 14, 1936, to the late Howell Lamar and Hattie Holcombe Thompson. Wade worked for Aramark for 35 years and was a United States Army veteran. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fixing things and gardening.

In addition to his wife, Wade is survived by his children, Shelia Thompson of Easley and Jeana Thompson (Paul) of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Marisa Kaiser (Lee), Marina Powell (Jonathan), Camden Pool and Carson Pool; his great-grandchild, Memphis Kaiser; and one great-grandchild due in February, Huntley Kaiser, as well as sisters, Catherine Cantrell and Martha Sue Gravely.

Mr. Thompson was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

A private burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park, and a public memorial service will be announced at a later date.

BETTY HONEA

LIBERTY — Betty Suttles Honea passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at the age of 91. She was called to her heavenly home after a brief battle with COVID-related complications. She died peacefully with her loving family by her side.

Born in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Rose Suttles. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Honea was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Willie A Honea, as well as an infant son, Bradley Eugene.

Surviving is their daughter, Beverly Watson (Mike), who lovingly cared for Mrs. Honea until her passing. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Heather Reeves (Dustin), Brandon Watson (Dennies) and Justin Watson; a great-granddaughter, Emma Reeves; and two sisters, Mary Herron and Jean Crawford.

Mrs. Honea was known as a devoted pastor’s wife, a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful member of her church. Perhaps she was best known as a prayer warrior, serving alongside her beloved husband, regularly interceding on behalf of others before God. If Mrs. Honea said she was praying for you, be assured that it was the truth. Mrs. Honea served in various roles in different seasons of their earthly ministry together, and now she is experiencing the joy of reuniting with her husband in the presence of Jesus.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Betty Honea were held on Dec. 7 at Calumet Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Zack Shaw. A private family burial will be held at Oconee Memorial Park.

ALLEN BOWIE

LIBERTY — Allen Eugene Bowie, 68, died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at his home. Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Lee Albert Bowie and Louise Crumpton Gillespie.

He worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years. Most of his career he worked at King Trucking in Liberty. He was currently working at MST Concrete Products in Central. He loved the Lord, his family and most of all his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and bass, working in the garden and watching football. He also cherished all his lifelong trucking friends.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Vickie Bowie of the home; a daughter, Marsha Alexander (David) of Liberty; three sons, Mitchell Bowie (Dana) of Pickens, Michael Bowie of Easley and Joshua Bowie of Liberty; a sister, Vicki Taylor; three brothers, Henry, Leonard, and Harold Bowie; six grandchildren, Alyssa Bowie, Skye Bowie, Jarred Bowie, Addison Bowie, Jenna Brown (Wyatt) and Regan Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Oaklynn and Kayce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Bowie, his stepfather, B.C. Gillespie, his wife’s parents, Melvin and Velma Bradley, and a grandson, Drake Bowie.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Bowie will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. No visitation is planned. Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Michael Morton

LIBERTY — Michael Adam Morton, 39, of Cleveland Court, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at his residence.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Jimmy Dean Morton and his wife, Jeannie, of Liberty and Angeline Koon Roper and her husband, Ray, of Six Mile.

He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was employed at Wilbert Plastics and attended Praise Sanctuary.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two daughters, Sonya and Donna Morton, both of West Union; a son, Mikey Morton of West Union; two brothers, Joey Morton of Liberty and Timothy Morton of Easley; two stepsisters, Cathy Welcher of Six Mile and Christy Revis of Pickens; and a stepbrother, Jason Ward of Liberty.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
