JERRY BENJAMIN KELLEY SR.

EASLEY — Jerry Benjamin Kelley Sr., 79, born May 18, 1940, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

Born in West Union, he was the son of the late Allen Kelley and Edith White Kelley.

Mr. Kelley Sr. was owner and operator of K&M Tool and Die, which he started back in 1977. He was known to be a hard worker and a good businessman in the community until retiring from the business in 2018. Mr. Kelley loved his church and his church family at Free Wesleyan Church and helping missionaries and ministers. He loved spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People knew him for having chickens and giving away fresh eggs to those he came into contact with as long as his health would allow. He always wanted to bring a smile to a person’s face and make people happy.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Omega Dyar Kelley of Easley; two sons, Ben Kelley (Joyce) of Pickens and Michael Kelley (Jenny) of Pickens; a daughter, Junise Stracener of Easley; six loving grandchildren, Deborah (Matt), Levi (Deidra), Erin (Kirk), Heather, Titus (Corina) and Angela (Bradly); 14 loving and precious great-grandchildren; brothers Milton Kelley, Maurice Kelley, Randall Kelley and Milas Kelley; and sisters, Rita Kelley, Donna Jean Smith and Linda Remillard.

Mr. Kelley was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Kelley.

Funeral services for Mr. Kelley will be private.

JAMES ‘JIM’ L. OLIVER

EASLEY — Mr. James “Jim” Loyd Oliver, 76, husband of Cynthia “Cindy” Smith Oliver, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 6, 2020.

Born in Los Angeles, the son of the late Albert Loyd Oliver and the late Miriam Kathleen Tindall Oliver, Mr. Oliver was a graduate of Bob Jones University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in music education, and retired from United Church Directories. He was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he served as choir director.

Jim loved sports and was an avid Clemson fan. He had a great love for his family, music, cooking and his church, but his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 53 years, are a son, Michael James Oliver (Jerica) of Easley; a daughter, Tonda Oliver Michelin (Aaron) of Easley; a sister, Vianna Oliver Robbins of Susanville, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Kevin Moser and Samantha Michelin.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

KEN WEST

EASLEY — Marion Kenneth “Ken” West, 77, of 202 S. 7th St., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Woodruff, he was a son of the late Rev. Furman Fincher West and Mildred Perry West.

He retired from Greenville Technical College, where he worked as an electrician. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189 AFM.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Margie Young West of the home; a daughter, Denise Grant of the home; a son, Mike West (Sharon) of Easley; a sister, Gail Wilson of Easley; two grandchildren, Brad West (Cricket) and Blake West; and five great-grandchildren, Wrenn, Mason, Maddox, Kyra and Josh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Wayne West.

Due to the current health crisis concerning COVID19 and CDC guidelines for social distancing, the family will have a private service to honor Ken’s life in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Robert ‘Cartee’ Cassell

PICKENS — Mr. Robert “Cartee” Cassell, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 12, 2020.

Mr. Cassell, better known as “Cartee,” was born in Pickens County and was the son of the late Robert J. Cassell and Bertha Ann Cantrell and husband of the late Sandra Howard Cassell.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Word of Greenville, and stepson, Steven Adcox (Yvonne) of Liberty. Also surviving are sisters Christine Lewis of Pickens and Cleon Meece of Easley and brother Clifton Cassell of Pickens. Cartee is survived by his very special friend, Nancy Jones, and grandson, Camaron Word.

Mr. Cassell was predeceased by his sisters, Carrie Lee Lewis, Correne Edens and Clessie Gravely, and a brother, Carmon Cassell.

Mr. Cassell loved to fish, hunt and do anything outdoors. He was known for his bubbly personality and enjoyed being a jokester. He enjoyed making people laugh. He wanted everyone to be happy in his presence.

He worked for Sangamo for a number of years and then continued with Cornell Dubilier until his retirement. After retirement, he was well known at the Pickens Flea Market for selling fishing gear.

Services will be private.

BILLY ‘BILL’ G. WILSON

LIBERTY — Billy G. Wilson, 83, husband of the late Martha Joan Davenport Wilson, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020.

Born in Anderson County, Bill was the son of the late Sterling Talmadge and Izona Burdette Wilson. He was a member of the Easley Moose Lodge for more than 30 years. Bill retired from Dayco Products in Easley and also owned and operated Wilson’s ABC store.

Surviving are two sons, Randy Wilson of Liberty and Mark Wilson of Fountain Inn; a daughter, Linda Sullivan (Chuck Letourneau) of the home; three stepdaughters, Teresa Miller (Bob) of Dacusville, Terri Ballard of Dacusville and Kay Dorsey of Easley; a sister, Swanee Burroughs of Bradenton, Fla.; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on April 10 in the chapel at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley. The burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence.

WANDA WATERS

CENTRAL — Wanda Hazel Waters, 64, of 4142 Old Greenville Highway, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Prisma Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late R.B. Revis and Juanita Brooks Medlock. She was of the Baptist faith and she loved farming, being outdoors, and hunting and fishing.

Surviving are her husband, Steve Waters; two daughters, Sherry Todd and Amanda Mauldin; a son, Robert Hughes; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Murphy; a stepson, Phillip Waters; a sister, Barbara Ann Norris; two brothers, Ben Revis and Harvey Revis; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Private services to honor her life were held in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Entombment was held at Memory Gardens. The livestream of her funeral took place at 1 p.m. on April 10. Simply visit her tribute wall on libertymortuary.com.

JIMMY PILGRIM

SIX MILE — Garvin Jimmy Pilgrim, 75, of 1107 Liberty Highway, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Six Mile, he was a son of the late Garvin R. and Lucille Barkley Pilgrim. He was a graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and later retired from Clemson University.

He loved woodworking and spending time with his family, but most of all he loved his only granddaughter with all his heart.

Jimmy was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Janet Whitlock Pilgrim of the home; a daughter, Angela Higgins (Bill) of Easley; two brothers, Danny Pilgrim (Judy) and Steve Pilgrim, all of Liberty; and his granddaughter, Brooke Higgins of Columbia.

CHARLES T. MCJUNKINS

PICKENS — Charles T. McJunkins, 88, husband of the late Loretta R. Long McJunkins, passed from this life, and we believe he took the hand of his lovely wife in Heaven and they danced together once again, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Dad was born in Monette, Ark., a son of the late Thomas Roe McJunkins and Maggie Modena Fortson McJunkins. He was retired from the trucking industry and was of the Baptist Faith. Dad served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He loved watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball and watching old westerns, and he enjoyed dancing and singing with our Mother. He was a great fisherman and taught his sons and grandsons how to fish. Smoking cigars was his most current hobby, and he enjoyed telling his stories from his journey through life to his grandchildren and his children. Dad loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed being around all of us, even when it got crazy at the family gatherings. We will miss him more than words can say.

He is survived by three daughters, Laura E. Frilick, Cynthia M. Moore (Jerry) and Lisa R. Murphy (Paul); 13 grandchildren, Charles S. McJunkins II, (Gina), Paul McJunkins (Paula), Heather McJunkins Montenegro (Juan Carlos), Matthew McJunkins, Misty Jones, Laurisa Galbreath (Warren), Brent Moore (Jennifer), Jack Frilick, Hillary Frilick, Brittany Frilick, Sean Murphy, Laurisa Murphy Ivery (Bryan) and Ashley Murphy; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Shirley Robertson.

He was predeceased by two sons, Charles Steven McJunkins and Jewell Thomas McJunkins; and two sisters, Betty Overs and Norma Fennel.

A graveside service was conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The service will be broadcast on Facebook Live through the Dillard Funeral Home Facebook page.

JOHN STONELL

LIBERTY — John Wesley Stonell, 77, of 102 Pine Knoll Road, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Laurens, he was the widower of Annette Stonell and a son of the late John and Ida Jordan Stonell.

He retired from Central Textiles and was a member of Central Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are a son, Matt Stonell (DeeAnna) of Liberty; a daughter, Lisa Bryant of Georgia; two sisters, Allie Calvert and Nancy Turner; three brothers, Melvin Stonell, Rev. Raymond Stonell and Pete Stonell; and four grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Stonell, and Cody and Colton Bryant.

MARTHA ANN HENDERSON

SIX MILE — Martha Ann Gaines Henderson, 60, of 840 Mt. Olivet Road, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at her residence.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Donald C. Gaines and his wife, Lori, of Liberty and the late Gail Couch. Martha loved to travel and especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was of the Christian faith.

Surviving in addition to her father and stepmother are a sister, Elizabeth McNeely; a brother, Jeremy Gaines and his wife, Cindy; a stepsister, Leann Roper; a special aunt, Pat Brown; four nieces and nephews, Kristen Rampey, Seth Gaines, Amber McNeely and J.C. Gaines II; and a great niece, Avayah Bensch.

A private memorial service for Ms. Henderson will be held on Wednesday, April 15, in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Due to the current COVID-19 health situation, the livestream of the service will available for viewing at 4 p.m. on Wednesday by visiting Ms. Henderson’s tribute wall at libertymortuary.com.
