STEPHANIE ELIZABETH ‘LIBBY’ PIMLOTT

PICKENS — Libby Newton Pimlott, 48, wife of 27 years of James “Jamie” T. Pimlott, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020, surrounded by her family after a three-year battle with cancer.

Libby is a daughter of Wayne Newton and Johnnie Cassell Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Pickens County and a 1990 graduate of Pickens High School. In addition to being a devoted Christian wife and mother, Libby was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and served the church for several years as a youth group leader.

After her God, Libby’s greatest love was her family. She met the love of her life and her soulmate, Jamie, when she was 15 years old. Together, they share two beautiful and talented daughters, who Libby inspired to dream big and do or be anything. She was also a loving, fun and supportive daughter, aunt and sister. Her favorite things included days spent with her family, spoiling her nieces and nephews, shopping with her girls, planning and taking amazing vacations, helping others and serving her church. The light of her life will continue to shine through the impact she’s made on countless lives by the deeds done in the name of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Jamie; daughters, Hannah Elizabeth Pimlott and Madison Grace Pimlott; sisters, April Diane Negrete (Jose) and Rebecca Newton Summey (Johnny); a brother, Matthew Eugene Newton (Lauren); and nieces and nephews, Taylor Durham, Emily and Sophie Negrete, Cheyenne Newton, Elizabeth “Harper” Newton, Reese Summey, Will and Karen Kay, Meredith Pace and Nathan Ward.

Libby was predeceased by her brother, Timothy Wayne Newton (Lynsey).

A graveside service will be held at Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Pickens on Wednesday, June 10, at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Barry Dillworth and Rev. H.C. Couch. The family will greet friends following the graveside service.

LOLA MAULDIN

PICKENS — Lola Jessie Lee Hayes Mauldin, 96, widow of Elvin E. Mauldin, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2020.

Mrs. Mauldin was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Jessie Daniel and Olive LaFoy Hayes.

She was a homemaker and was formerly employed with Pace Jewelers and Hampton’s Clothing Store, both in Pickens. She was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Ronnie Mauldin (Melody) of Pickens; as well as eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mauldin was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Mauldin; son, Richard Mauldin; grandson, Tommy Mauldin; sister, Lucille Stone (Jack); and brothers, Ed Hayes (Lib) and Dan Hayes.

A graveside service was conducted on June 6 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

CARRIE ANN BOLDING SMITH

LIBERTY — Carrie Ann Bolding Smith, 45, of 120 Towns End Drive, sadly passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

Born in Easley, on Aug. 2, 1974, a daughter of Vickie Lynn Durham and the late Larry Joe Bolding, Carrie was a friendly, loving and giving mama, daughter, sister, granny, aunt and friend. She was a believer of Christ.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her ex-husband, Kevin Dwayne Smith; their two daughters, Tiffany Dawn Bolding and Kaysie Lynn Vera; her three grandsons, Brentley Dustin James Dodson, Grady Drake Vera and Braylon Dwayne Waco Dodson; her sons-in-law, James Waco Dodson II and Grady Enrique Vera; her sister, Jody Lynn Bolding; her nieces, Victoria Lynsie Dover and Teri Elaine Bolding; and her great nieces and nephew, Aubree Lynn Dover, Bryson Lucas Randall Dover and Emalynn Grace Clark.

She will be missed dearly.

THOMAS CODY BOWEN

PICKENS — Thomas Cody Bowen, 30, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

Cody was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church in Pickens and was a unique and special friend to many.

His smile affected everyone he met. Cody loved many things, including the Clemson Tigers and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle; however, this love paled in comparison to the love and adoration he had for his daughter.

Survivors include his parents, Tommy R. Bowen and Jeannie Floyd Bowen of Pickens; a daughter, Savannah Grace Bowen of Pickens; godparents, Alan and Jackie Rampey of Pickens; godmother, Cooki Henderson of Greenville; and five special godsisters, Savannah, Sommer and Sophie Henderson and Jenna and Anna Garland Rampey.

Mr. Bowen was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Frank Floyd and Margaret H. Floyd, as well as his paternal grandparents, Guy Ray Bowen and Aileen Smith Bowen.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Bowen will be held at a later date.

The family will be at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Bowen.

MASTER SGT. DELLA A. SEAWRIGHT

DACUSVILLE — Master Sgt. Della A. Seawright, USAF retired, 66, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, after a courageous five-year battle with leukemia.

She was born in Greenville County, the daughter of Jacob M. and Lois Fowler Seawright. Master Sgt. Seawright retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve, 84th APS, after 27 years of service. During her military career, she was involved in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom Conflict. Della was also a former employee of Reliable Sprinkler Inc., Liberty, in the QA Department. Della was a 1971 graduate of Dacusville High School and a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

Above all, Della’s greatest accomplishment is her family and friends. Four words sum up her life, “God, Family, Friends and Country — All four will live on.”

She is survived by a son, Joshua W. Seawright. Also surviving are her three brothers, Roy Seawright (Jane) of Dacusville, Wayne Seawright (Melba) of Easley and Junior Seawright (Judy) of Pickens; and one sister, Judy Lawson (Butch) of Dacusville.

Ms Seawright was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Edward (Eddie)

Memorial services for Master Sgt. Seawright were held on June 5 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Barry Dilworth, Rev. Tim Murrell and Pastor Micky Hitchock. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, only 50 people were allowed in the chapel. The service was livestreamed at robinsonfuneralhomes.com.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and staff of Greenville Health System Cancer Institute and the nurses and staff of Greenville Memorial Hospital, McCrary Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit, for the exceptional care of their dear “Della.” The family would like to also especially thank all the dedicated caregivers and prayer warriors during this particularly difficult journey. OPAL P. HOOKER

EASLEY — Opal Porter Hooker, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Julian Otis Porter and Etta Gravely Porter.

Mrs. Hooker was retired from Mayfair Mills after 50 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed crocheting and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 70 years, Benjamin B. Hooker; children, Julia Langston and her husband, James, and Ben Hooker and his wife, Ann; grandchildren, Andy and Dawn Hooker, Casey and Trey Willingham, Jay Langston, Jonathan and Danae Langston and Paul and Hannah Langston; great-grandchildren, Kinley, Lathem and Sophie Hooker, Reese and Mason Willingham and Lucy Kate, Jase and Bodie Langston; and a sister, Hazel Morgan.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kristen Langston, and a sister, Eloise Anthony.

Graveside services were held on June 5 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

REV. CHARLES ALVIN HAMLIN

LIBERTY — Rev. Charles Alvin Hamlin, 93, husband of the late Frances Whitlock Hamlin, completed his earthly journey on Friday, June 5, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Edward and Pauline Welborn Hamlin. Rev. Hamlin received a master’s degree in theology from New Orleans Seminary and was a member of Liberty First Baptist Church. Alongside his beloved wife, Rev. Hamlin built homes and churches to change lives and to build character in hundreds of young lives and to help many to do what they thought could not be done. He loved to travel. Rev. Hamlin visited 48 states, England, Jamaica and Canada.

Rev. Hamlin served our country in the United States Navy and later served for 48 years in several churches as director, interim pastor and pastor. The churches he served were French Corner Baptist Church in Ponchatoula, La., Jerusalem Baptist Church in Bush, La., Southeast Baptist Assembly in Mandeville, La., First Baptist Church of Folsom in Folsom, La., First Baptist Church of Madisonville in Madisonville, La., First Baptist Church of Mandeville, in Mandeville, La., Hebron Baptist Church in Bush, La., Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., Glenwood Baptist Church in Easley, Arial Baptist Church in Easley, Central First Baptist Church in Central, and First Baptist Church of Liberty in Liberty.

Surviving are a son, Jerry D. Hamlin of Pelzer; a granddaughter, Angela Hamlin Turner; five brothers, Milton, Edward, Billy, Mickey and Ronald Hamlin; four sisters, Hazel Bryant, Barbara Caldwell, Phyllis Findley and Gloria Gaillard; and a son-in-law, Melvin Golder.

In addition to his parents and loving wife of 70 years, he was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Golder; and two sisters, Kathleen Starr and Jean Edwards.

Funeral services were held on June 8 at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.

VELMA LOUISE SMITH BRADLEY

PICKENS — Velma Louise Smith Bradley, 92, entered into her eternal home on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Heartland West Nursing Facility in Greenville.

She leaves behind her loving husband of almost 68 years together, four children, 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family can thankfully take some solace in their grief, knowing that she was reunited with her loving parents, Ed and Cornelia Smith, on heaven’s shores.

Born on Feb. 18, 1928, Velma was a woman who truly loved Jesus and saw the true value of family. She met and married her loving husband Melvin on Nov. 1, 1952, placing her focus on raising a beautiful family.

Through many hardships in her life, she realized early on that a good life was seeing the beauty in the small blessings around her. Some of her sweetest blessings were being with family, caring for children and enjoying her favorite foods.

Her strength was found in her faith in Christ, and her value was far above rubies. She lived a virtuous life, and the impact is in the family she leaves behind.

She leaves behind her husband, Melvin; her children, Roger Bradley (Susie), Vickie Bowie (Allen), Roselyn Finley (Randall) and Terry Bradley (Page); her grandchildren, Keith Bradley (Danielle), Weston Bradley, Brandon Bradley (Jennifer), Cody Bradley (Kayla), Mitchell Bowie (Dana), Michael Bowie, Marsha Alexander (David), Joshua Bowie, Brian Finley (Amy), Tiffany Moon (Jason), Amanda Horn (John), Christopher Bradley (Nikki) and Davey Bradley. She also leaves behind an abundance of blessings with 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as a brother, Hovie Smith (Joann).

A graveside service was held on June 4 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

RICHARD PRESTON MCCLURE

EASLEY — Richard Preston McClure, 60, husband of Vicki Lynn McClure, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at his home.

Mr. McClure was the son of David H. McClure of Banks County, Ga., and A. Louise Reece of Easley.

Survivors include his wife, his parents; his children, Brandon Bailey (Emily) of Winder, Ga. and Megan A. McClure of Felton, Pa.; grandchildren, Hunter and Victoria Heaton, Ellenna McClure and Zaiden and Preston Bailey; Earl McClure, Dean McClure, Brenda McClure, all of Georgia, and Sue Odom of South Carolina.

Mr. McClure was predeceased by Steven McClure of Winder, Ga.

DONALD A. GILSTRAP

EASLEY — Donald “Goat” A. Gilstrap, 83, loving husband of the late Frankie Freeman Gilstrap, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late James Benson Gilstrap and Ellen Brooks Gilstrap. He was an Army veteran who worked at and retired from Ace Hardware in Pickens. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Goat was a people person who never met a stranger. He had an amazing sense of humor and liked to give people nicknames that they would never forget. He was a family man who loved spending time with his family and “aggravating” them. He also loved his poodle Coco very much.

Surviving are his children, Buddy Gilstrap (Kim) of Easley, Cissy Ledford of Seneca, Debra Hood, Tammy Hickey and Sherry Meridith; and grandchildren, Cole, Cassidy and Gracie Gilstrap, Sydney Ledford, Joseph Hickey, Patrick and Ben Eskew and Brandon Kagey.

Goat was the last surviving member of his family and was predeceased by his parents and 18 siblings.

A graveside service was held on June 3 in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Cole Gilstrap, Todd Willoughby, Damon Jackson, Jack Jackson, Greg Chapman and Dillon Gilstrap.

Flowers will be accepted, and the family will be at their respective homes.

JUNIOR PORTER

PICKENS — Junior Porter, 70, husband of 43 years to Jerri Lynn Teague Porter, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020.

Junior was a United States Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Jerri Lynn of the home; a son, Matt Porter of the home; a daughter, Maggie Porter Boynton (Jeremy); grandchildren, Payden, Ella Grace and Porter; sisters, Jackie, Annette and Paula; and his brothers from another mother, Dennis Wilson and Lewis Seay.

Junior was predeceased by his parents, Walter Gelola Porter Sr. and Pauline Cannon Porter, and a brother-in-law, Steve Stewart.

A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
