BARBARA JEAN HOLLOWAY ROBINSON

EASLEY — Ms. Barbara Jean Holloway Robinson, 65, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

Born in Easley, she was the daughter of John Marshall Holloway and the late Betty Jean Bowens Holloway.

Barbara retired from the Easley Recreation Department and was a member of the Avon Club. She loved to read and cook. Barbara was a people person, always putting the care of others ahead of her own and loved meeting people at all types of sporting events. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving, in addition to her father, are a stepsister, Yolanda Anderson; a stepbrother, George Davis, and his wife, Teresa; and their children, Porsha Mansell, Wesley Davis and Taylor Davis.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

JIM REID

EASLEY — James Otis “Jim” Reid, 85, of Holly Bush Road, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late James Lewis Reid and Bertha Spearman Reid.

Mr. Reid was retired from General Electric in Greenville. He was formerly employed with Saco-Lowell in Easley. He attended Jones Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Ellenburg Reid; stepsons, Keith Bryant and Randall Bryant; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Cecil Reid of Pickens.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa Keasler; sisters, Inez Smith and Viola Talley; and a brother, J.D. Reid.

A funeral service was held on June 23 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the building fund of Jones Avenue Baptist Church, 614 Ross Ave., Easley, SC 29640.

MILLEDGE ‘BILL’ WHITE

LIBERTY — Milledge T. “Bill” White, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the Cottingham Hospice House.

He was born in Williamston, a son of the late Jessie Lee White and Elzie Izola Watson White.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy White.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Martin of the home; two stepdaughters, Angie Dinkel and Beth Anthony, both of Liberty; a sister, Grace Burgess of Pelzer; a brother, Roy White (Diane) of Easley; five grandchildren, Jessica Murray (Aaron), Josh Roach, Justin Roach (Kelsey), Kayla O’Shields (Michael) and Hunter Anthony; seven great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Caleb, Landon, Ryland, Talon, Grayson and Kynnidy; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services for Mr. White were held on June 19 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel, with Rev. Roger Todd officiating. No visitation is planned. The livestream is available by visiting his tribute wall at libertymortuary.com.

GENOBLE STEWART LAMANCE

SIX MILE — Genoble Stewart LaMance, 90, wife of the late Clinton LaMance, joined her Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

A native of Pickens County, Mrs. LaMance was the daughter of the late Eula Belle Arnold Stewart and Leland Stewart. Mrs. LaMance worked as an inspector and retired from Schlumberger after 30 years of service.

Genoble enjoyed farming, cooking and canning food. She was a lover of animals, rescuing many stray dogs and cats. She also cherished family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren at her pond and during the Christmas season.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane Richardson (Rod) of Six Mile; one son, Robert LaMance (Dottie) of Pickens; one brother, Charles Stewart of Six Mile; and two grandchildren, Logan LaMance and Mason LaMance.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Mrs. LaMance was predeceased by her parents, husband and four sisters.

CHARLIE GENE “HAP” BOWEN

EASLEY — Mr. Charlie Gene “Hap” Bowen, 77, husband of Catherine Bowles Bowen, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020.

Born in Hart County, Ga., the son of the late Charlie Lee Bowen and the late Sarah Louise Gaines Bowen, Mr. Bowen was a graduate of Boys’ High School in Anderson and retired from BellSouth. He was an avid Clemson fan and longtime IPTAY member and loved coaching little league sports. In his spare time he enjoyed small engine repair. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 53 years, are two sons, Michael Bowen of Easley and Mark Bowen (Jackie) of Pickens; a sister, Mary Morris of Georgia; and four grandchildren, Paige, Alan, Hannah and Matthew Bowen.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

JAMES H. HARDY

PICKENS — James Harvey “Jimmy” Hardy, 58, beloved husband of Nancy Gillespie Hardy, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020.

James was born in Lincoln, Neb., and was a son of the late David and Imogene Puckett Hardy. He was an electrical engineer, serving as plant engineer for Saco-Lowell in Easley. He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion. James was a history buff and a NASCAR fan. More than anything, James loved his Lord and Savior, as well as his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his family role as the BBQ pit master.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Nancy Hardy; his son, James Hardy (Carrie); and his daughters, Jeannie Hunter (Eric) and Katherine Stillwell Bowen. Other survivors include his five grandchildren, Caleb, Brayden, Gavin, Savannah, and Alexandra; his sisters, Linda Hardy (David) and Amber Hardy; and his brothers, Michael Hardy (Megan) and David Hardy (Patty).

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Hardy.

A funeral service was held at Dillard Funeral Home on June 23.

LARRY DAVID NABORS

LIBERTY — Mr. Larry David Nabors, 58, left for his major car race on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Mr. Nabors was born in Greenville and was the son of the late James Nabors and Mary Bell Morgan Nabors. He was the husband in a 12-year marriage to Rhonda A. Nabors.

Mr. Nabors was an avid admirer of NASCAR and himself a professional driver at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway. He was a professional mechanic and an all-around car guy. He could diagnose a problem by just listening to the engine run. He attended college in auto mechanics and trained in Germany as a specialist in German engineering. He loved his family, and his family has great memories of him on the racetrack. He loved his wife of 12 years and cooked a mean grill cheese, while also being a deviled egg man.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda; son, Travis Nabors (Bethany) of Woodruff; daughter, Kayla Dailey of Easley; and his loving and precious grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Kaylee, Katie and Katrina. He is also survived by one sister, Pat Mull (Gene) of Greenville.

Mr. Nabors was predeceased by one sister, Mary Posey.

NANCY LARK LOOPER

DACUSVILLE — Mrs. Nancy Lark Looper, 80, wife of Franklin “Frank” M. Looper Jr., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late James Dewey Lark and the late Cora Lee Nix Lark, Mrs. Looper was a graduate of Pickens High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 59 years, are a son, Dale M. Looper (Donna) of Easley; a daughter, Anita L. Richardson (Jeff) of Dacusville; a brother, Marcus Lark (Patty) of Greenwood; two sisters, Shirley Batson (Carl) and Beverly Willimon (Phil), all of Pickens; a sister-in-law, Judy Lark of Clover; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Looper was predeceased by one brother, Larry Joe Lark of Clover.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be available for visitation at the graveside immediately following the service.

JIMMY KEITH BURGESS

EASLEY — Jimmy Keith Burgess, 61, died on Monday, June 15, 2020 at his home.

Jimmy was born in Easley, a son of the late Bobby Joe and Bobbie Jean Smith Burgess. He was formerly employed with Fluor Corporation as a certified welder.

Survivors include his sister, Ronda Jean (Jeannie B. Wilson) Burgess and his brother, Jeffery Dale Burgess.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Phillip Burgess and Joey Griffin Burgess.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.

HOMER DUANE BROWN JR.

EASLEY — Homer Duane Brown Jr., 87, loving husband to Martha G. Brown for 61 years, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020.

A native of Pickens County, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Homer D. Brown Sr. and Pauline Thornton Brown. He was a charter member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and loved farming.

Survivors include his wife, Martha G. Brown of Easley; three daughters, Pam Porter (Greg) of Dacusville, Sharon Broome (Robbin) of Easley and Susan Freeman of Greenville; two sons, Danny Brown (Lisa) of Moncks Corner and Randy Brown (Debbie) of Dacusville; two sisters, Helen Wood (Wayne) of Seneca and Margaret Stephens (Joe) of Easley; three brothers, Gordon Brown of Greenville, Louis Brown (Norma) of Charlotte, N.C., and Donald Brown (Vera) of Easley; 12 grandchildren, Megan Porter, Matt Porter, Andrew Porter, Adam Broome, Justin Broome, Dustin Brown, Jacob Brown, Jordan Freeman, Carly Freeman, Cassidy Freeman, Drake Brown and Austin Dickard; and six great-grandchildren, Grayson Broome, Ezra Broome, Jed Broome, Makon Brown, Kaygen Brown and Charlie Brown.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents.

MICHAEL WAYNE SLOAN

LIBERTY ­— Michael Wayne Sloan, 74, died on Friday, June 19, 2020, at his residence.

Born in Union City, Ga., he was a son of the late Thomas Oliver and Jewel Hamil Sloan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play. He also enjoyed the outdoors, electronics and talking politics, but he especially enjoyed a good pipe. He was a member of the Church of Christ on Three and 20 Road in Easley.

Surviving are his wife, Fay Bostic Sloan of Liberty; two sons, Matthew Sloan (Melissa) and Jason Sloan (Brenda), both of Liberty; a daughter, Rebecca Carlos of Liberty; and five grandchildren, Landen, Micah, Caleb, Gabe and Jessie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kyle Sloan.

JERRY RANDALL HARRISON

CENTRAL — Jerry Randall Harrison, 77, loving husband to Delores Elinda Harrison for 44 years, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

A native of Pickens County, Mr. Harrison was born on April 15, 1943, to the late Wayne Fant Harrison Sr. and Beatrice Greene Harrison.

Randall was a member of several organizations, including the Tate Masonic Lodge in Norris, the Hejaz Temple in Greenville, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Liberty. He was also a veteran of U.S. Navy.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Harrison is survived by his children, Keith Harrison (Andy) of Cateechee, Allen Harrison of Easley and Debbie Harrison of Central; grandchildren, Richard Mauldin, Johnny Smith, Jerry Harrison, Callen Barton, Kendall Harrison, Audra Sims and Abby Sims; great-grandchildren, Karla Gaillard, Kinsley Rollins, Emilee Gaillard, Keegan Creel, Kayson Lusk, Xander Harrison, Snowbird Terry, Aubrie Smith and Mason Smith; and a niece, Pam Boggs.

Randall was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Carla Edwards; great-grandson, Kolbin Lusk; sister, Carolyn Harrison; and brothers, Dale Harrison and Wayne Harrison Jr.

The family will be holding a private memorial service.
