PICKENS — A Pickens woman found guilty of killing her 13-month-old grandson by giving him oxycodone in a sippy cup is set to have a new trial after her conviction was overturned last fall.

Angela Brewer, formerly of Swiss Entrance, was released from the Camille Graham Correctional Institution in Columbia on Nov. 23 and has been held without bond at the Pickens County Detention Center as a pretrial detainee since then, according to officials.

The South Carolina Supreme Court in October overturned Brewer’s December 2017 conviction of homicide by child abuse, for which she was sentenced to serve 20 years in state prison. Brentley Kolbin Lane Lusk was found dead at Brewer’s home in October 2014.

Proposed new Easley budget has millage hike

EASLEY — The proposed city of Easley fiscal year 2023-24 budget contains a three-mill increase.

Easley City Council held first reading of the budget during its May 8 meeting.

Interim city administrator Tommy Holcombe presented the proposed $25,739,334 budget.

Issaqueena Fest set for Saturday

SIX MILE — Main Street in Six Mile will be abuzz with activity this Saturday, May 20, for the town’s 33rd annual Issaqueena Festival.

The family-oriented event will offer the 11th annual Issaqueena’s Flight for the Fight 5K, plenty of food, a wide variety of craft vendors, games and activities for the kids and live music.

The Flight for the Fight will kick off the day at Ponderosa Park at 8 a.m. There will be three events — a 5K, a virtual 5k and a half-mile fun run. All proceeds benefit Dabo’s All In Team
