Festival fun finally returns

COUNTY — After a year of lockdowns and social distancing, spring brings with it a number of festivals and events this year, including many that are returning from last year’s cancellations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pickens Azalea Festival will be held this Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17.

Roads will close at 6 p.m. Friday evening before the cruise-in, which will be held from 7-10 p.m. and will feature cars and Jeeps from all eras.

Monthly Soapstone fish fry set for this Saturday

PICKENS — Soapstone Church invites everyone to a special fundraiser at the church, located at 296 Liberia Road in Pickens, this Saturday, April 17.

The event will feature fine cooking and will be held from noon-8 p.m.

FEMA to assist with funeral costs for COVID-19-related deaths

Officials announced recently that the Six Mile Farmers Market will kick off its season this month. The first day of the market season will be Thursday, April 22, from 4-7 p.m.

The market is located at 102 S. Main St., in the old fire station downtown, which is also the home of Red, White & Brew. Coffee Co.

• Rummage sale set Dacusville UMC

A huge rummage sale is planned at Dacusville United Methodist Church, located at 1339 Thomas Mill Road in Easley, on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

There will be a hot dog sale from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday. There will also be a bake sale, and the event will be held rain or shine.

I know there are some who really don’t like brownies, and I understand and don’t judge. We all have a different set of taste buds and can’t control our genetic makeup.

But for those of you who do like chocolate — and I am among those — you may like some of these variations on the classic brownie recipe.

None of these recipes are rocket science, fortunately, but I — and my taste buds — think they’re good. We all hope your taste buds agree.
