Dear Editor,
Here’s something for the young people reading this that will stand true at a future time in the history of the world.
They were made out of paper, and within was all kinds of information. They could educate, amaze and entertain you for hours. What was so amazing was that there were no pop-up ads and no one, absolutely no one, but you and God knew what you were learning about from them. Not the government, not even your parents. No?! I’m serious!
They, like weapons, in the right hands could inspire. In the wrong, destroy. So powerful, they were feared by the

Bahá’ís to celebrate 200th anniversary
COUNTY — Bahá’ís of Pickens County and Upstate South Carolina will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the
Báb, the Prophet and herald of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, from Oct. 26-30.
In honoring the spirit of the occasion, local Bahá’ís have been increasing their personal visits to share prayers with friends. Other activities for the celebration in Pickens County have included luncheon programs in July and September and will include a dinner program on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. For details, the public may call (864) 855-2072.
Inspired by the life and teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, founder of the Bahá’í Faith, millions of people worldwide celebrated the 200th anniversary of His birth in October 2017. Now, in October 2019, people will celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of the Báb, whose revitalizing message prepared the way for the coming of Bahá’u’lláh.
The Báb (1819-1850) announced, in the middle of the mid-1800s, that He was the bearer of a message destined to transform humanity’s spiritual life.
This two-year bicentenary period provides a vision of the oneness of humanity as an antidote to the racial prejudice and materialism that are corroding American society.
“Now, more than ever, we need positive models of social change that bring people together rather than divide them,” said Easley resident Anisa Young, a senior at Clemson University. “This is what we will be celebrating in the months leading up to and following the Báb’s birth in October.”

PICKENS — On a homecoming night that featured an engagement and a crowning, all Pickens High School fans were
missing was a win, as the Walhalla Razorbacks’ rushing attack led them to a 35-7 victory
over the Blue Flame.
“We weren’t able to start or finish drives tonight,” Pickens head coach Chad Smith said after the game. “Give Walhalla all the credit in the world. They’re a good football team. I don’t think we executed like we needed to, and that falls on me. We struggled to contain (Walhalla quarterback Corey) Loggins, we were overpursuing a lot, and that just comes down to discipline.”
Pickens saw some success throwing the ball, with quarterback Drew Campbell delivering his first touchdown pass of the year and Pickens’ only offensive score of the night to running back Zionde Clark.
“They stacked the box, and we were able to throw it some,” Smith said. “We just did not execute in the passing game. When someone stacks the box like that, you have to be able to throw them out of it.”
Prior to kickoff, Pickens linebackers coach J.J. Stone walked out to midfield

ANDERSON — T.L. Hanna took advantage of a short field in three second-quarter scoring drives to break open a
close game on the way to beating Easley 37-10 on Friday night.
Things started out hot for the Yellow Jackets on their homecoming night. Easley seemed to relax a bit as Malachi Calhoun’s game-opening kick was caught right at the goal line, but Ja’nike Truesdale took the ball and raced untouched for the 99-yard kickoff return to give Hanna a 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.
Easley answered with a nice drive. Starting at the 20, as the Green

By Bru Nimmons

PIEDMONT — After weeks of everything going right for the Daniel Lions, things started to go very wrong at the end of Friday’s game against the Wren Hurricanes.
The Lions allowed Wren to come back from a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit to take a 28-27 lead with just 1:13 remaining, and with star quarterback Tyler Venables out with a leg injury, the Lions turned to backup quarterback Jackson Crosby.
Crosby didn’t disappoint, taking the Lions 70 yards in just more than a minute as they pulled off a 34-28 win with a touchdown in the game’s final second.
“This was awesome,” Daniel coach Jeff Fruster said. “There was great effort on both sides. We have plenty to work on, but when you talk about complete
