PICKENS — After two weeks of missed opportunities to open the 2019 season, the Pickens Blue Flame went into Friday’s game against county rival Liberty needing a win in the worst way.

The Flame were able to make the most of their opportunity, stifling the Liberty offense and picking up a 10-0 win.

“It feels great,” Pickens coach Chad Smith said. “Our kids executed, and we did a good job. I’m very proud of them. Those kids impressed me tonight. That was a first-class type of win.”

The closing minutes of the win were especially sweet for Smith, as his team showed remarkable determination in the fourth quarter, stopping the Red Devils inside the 1-yard line on their last possession before chewing up the final six minutes of the game clock with a drive that

PICKENS — After an emotional, hard-fought battle with county rival Pickens Friday night, the Liberty Red Devils must have had one question running through their mind — what if?

The Devils had multiple missed opportunities, especially in the final quarter, in a 10-0 loss.

Following Pickens turnovers, Liberty started with the ball in Blue Flame territory at the 15-yard line and the 38-yard line and came away with zero points, literally missing by half a yard on its final chance.

“I didn’t have our team ready to play,” Liberty coach Kyle Stewart said after the game. “Plain and simple, we weren’t ready to play. That’s my

EASLEY — Easley will play its closest rival Friday night when the Green Wave trek the six miles into Anderson County to play the high-flying Wren Hurricanes in their home opener.

The Green Wave will look to bounce back after a disappointing performance in the second game versus Daniel, falling, 51-6.

“We’ve got to get ready for another really good football team,” first-year Easley coach Caleb King said after the loss to the Lions. “Wren has a great football team. We’ve got to make sure we are well prepared, better than we were tonight.”

Offensively, the Green Wave have tried to have a balanced attack. Quarterback Kasten Harvey has yet to throw for a score, but has two rushing touchdowns, while only throwing one interception so far this season.

His top target has been freshman receiver Chris Edge, who has 12 catches, but for just 60 yards. Senior Hooper

CENTRAL — Following big wins against county foes Easley and Liberty, the Daniel Lions entered Friday’s contest against the archrival Seneca Bobcats hoping to stay on the right track.

The Lions did that and much more, blowing out the Bobcats at Singleton Field and adding to a string of domination that has seen Daniel outscore its first three opponents 151-26 as it tries to stave off complacency.

“We’re going to continue to focus on us,” Daniel coach Jeff Fruster said. “That’s been our plan the whole time, and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”

“We’re going to stay hard at work,” senior wide receiver Hack Hamilton added. “We can’t slow down.”

The Lions got off to yet another hot start Friday night, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter to seemingly put the game away before Seneca could even gasp for air.

“My team continues to impress me with the way they come out strong,” Fruster said. “They knew how big of a game this was and what kind of energy Seneca would come out
