Dear Editor,

I’ve heard it said, “Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home.” That’s true.

What is a home? A home bricks and mortar do not make. Nor wood nor stone. Home should be a place where you can go when the entire world hates you and they will accept you and you can find love and peace there. There is no judgment in a true home, only love and encouragement.

Dreams are often started at home and spread to the world. A home can be many helping one

EDWINA GARRETT CRANE

EASLEY — Edwina Garrett Crane, 91, wife to William Carl “Bucky” Crane Jr., went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 5, 2021.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Edith Pike Garrett. She was a member of Easley First Baptist Church for 71 years and a member of Nosegay Garden Club. Mrs. Crane will be remembered for the notes of encouragement she wrote to those in need.

Mrs. Crane is survived by her husband of 71 years, William Carl “Bucky” Crane Jr.; son, William Carl Crane III (Jackie) of Easley; daughters, Candy C. Shuler of Marion and Sally G. Crane of Columbia; and brother, George E. Garrett (Georgia) of Pickens. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Drew Droege, Garrett Droege, William Carl Crane IV and Wesley

Liberty wrestlers win state championships

COLUMBIA — After a great day at the Class 2A-1A Upper State championship last week, the Liberty Red Devils wrestling team had high expectations for the state championship meet at Dreher High School on Saturday.

They more than met those expectations in Columbia, bringing two state champions and two other top-three finishers home from the competition.

Pickens club volleyball teams host free clinic for area players

PICKENS — Pickens Carolina One volleyball coaches and 16 Elite and 18 Elite players put on a free clinic Saturday for more than 75 girls who currently play for Pickens recreation teams.

LIBERTY — Pickens High School kicked off softball season with a bang over the weekend, going 3-1 and winning the Red Devil Varsity Invitational with a 5-3 win over homestanding Liberty.

65th anniversary

The Rev. William Edwards Harris and Mildred Syphronia Guthrie Harris celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Jan. 28. Rev. Harris is a retired minister with the Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Harris is a retired inspector with WestPoint Stevens. Rev. Harris served in the U.S. Army, as did the couple’s two sons and two daughters. The couple’s eldest daughter is the elected Veterans Administration officer for Pickens County. The Harrises have six children and many grand and great-grandchildren.
