MARY MAULDIN HOLDER LARK
PICKENS — Mrs. Mary Mauldin Holder Lark, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, at Foothills 
Retirement Community, where she had enjoyed residing for the past five and a half years.
Mary was born on Aug. 1, 1930, in Pickens, to James Gilliland and Ressie Mae Moser Holder. When her father died at the young age of 39, the family was taken in by her uncle, Earl Moser, who helped provide for them, along with numerous other family members. It was always very important to her to acknowledge the impact he made on not only their lives, but the lives of many. Before graduating from Pickens High School in 1947 (the last year the school had only 11 grades) she began working at Finley’s Market, where she met Hubert William Lark, who she eventually married in 1948. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage before he passed away in 2007.
After her marriage, she began working at REA (now Blue Ridge Electric Co-op) until their children, Ronny and Penny, were born. Once Ronny was kindergarten age, she began teaching at Pickens First Baptist Kindergarten, where she continued to teach and open the minds of small children to the world for 38 years. Mary lived to see the spark of understanding in the eyes of a child and continued to learn

PICKENS — After opening the season with a win over Crescent, Pickens looked to stay unbeaten and add another game to the win column against Franklin County (Ga.) last Friday night.

Lions score early, often to beat county foe Easley

EASLEY — After making a statement in their season-opening win against Greer, the Daniel Lions demanded respect despite having to replace many key players from their back-to-back Class 3A state championship runs.
However, that didn’t stop Easley fans from chanting “We want Daniel!” in the time leading up to a weather-delayed kickoff on Friday night.
Those chants quickly evaporated when the action started, though, as the Lions beat down their cross-county foes 55-7 in a dominant performance on the road.

EASLEY — Easley had the tough task of trying to stop two-time defending Class 3A state champion Daniel’s 25-game win streak Friday night in the home opener at Bill Carr Stadium.
The Green Wave knew they would have to play a nearly flawless game to win and have a few calls go their way. A 70-minute weather delay to start the game didn’t help the crowd for sure.

Red Devils drop home opener to Blue Ridge

LIBERTY — Coming off of a win at Carolina to open the season, the Liberty Red Devils failed to keep the momentum as they dropped their first home game of the year in a 20-7 loss to Blue Ridge on Friday night.
With all of the excitement of Liberty’s first home game of the year, the game was not spared by the scattered storms of the evening that plagued most of the Upstate. Kickoff was delayed just more than an hour. The game finally got underway at about 8:45 p.m.
