EASLEY — An Easley Police Department officer killed in the line of duty last summer was inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame last week.

During the early morning hours of Aug. 2, Officer Matthew Hare was assisting in the search for a missing and suicidal woman.

Volunteers revitalize old Soapstone schoolhouse

PICKENS — Volunteers were working over the weekend to renovate the one-room schoolhouse on the grounds of historic Soapstone Baptist Church.

For more than 150 years, the church has been a cornerstone of Pickens’ Liberia community, founded by freed slaves after the Civil War.

SIX MILE — Tuesday afternoon was a momentous occasion for the town of Six Mile as the community watched former mayor Roy Stoddard cut the ribbon for the new pavilion that was named in honor of him.

PICKENS — Donna Guy, 78, of Pickens, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Donna was born in Burlington, Vermont to the late George and Alice Hutchby. She was raised atNazareth Orphanage in Raleigh, N.C. She graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School. During her working life, she was an insurance agent at Nationwide and a dedicated caregiver. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed medical mysteries and inspirational books. She loved to bake pound cake and cookies and enjoyed baking for all of her friends, family and for anyone who made a difference in her life. Donna was kind hearted and generous. She
