Keowee Lodge looks to find past members
PICKENS — The Keowee Lodge #79 A.F.M. of Pickens is planning an awards night and the group has a lot of brothers that they can’t get a hold of.

Young Appalachian Musicians hosts camp with support from the SC Arts Commission
COUNTY —The Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) program completed two weeks of Traditional Arts and Music Camp at the Holly Springs Center in Pickens. Sixty students attended camp each week.
While at camp, students new and old learn to play traditional Appalachian instruments by ear. They spent the mornings at camp learning their instrument of choice.

Fentanyl awareness rally, candlelight vigil planned

PICKENS COUNTY – Two events this month aim to educate the community and help protect it from the dangers of the potent synthetic opioid fentanyl.
In 2021, more than 71,000 people died from fentanyl overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

PICKENS – Pickens City Administrator Charlene Carter has resigned.
Carter resigned on August 16, Mayor Fletcher Perry said.
Carter was named Pickens City Administrator on Sept. 12, 2022, after former city administrator Philip Trotter’s resignation went into effect on May 31 of that year. She began serving as administrator on Sept. 19.

Clemson man charged with exploiting minor

CLEMSON — A Clemson man faces six charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors.
Hayden Drake Cartee, 22, was arrested on Aug. 14, Attorney General Alan Wilson said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Walhalla man dies in Pickens County
LIBERTY — A Walhalla man died in a single-car wreck in Pickens County on Thursday.
Pickens County deputy coroner Tommy Page identified the victim as Austin Lee Turner, 25, of North West Broad Street in Walhalla.

Clemson City Council signs off on latest development

CLEMSON — There was no pushback against the latest planned development ready to set up shop on the outskirts of downtown Clemson.

Friends of Guardian ad Litem host ‘Heart and Sole’
The Friends of Pickens County Guardian ad Litem helped nearly 160 area children get a better start on the school year with new shoes and clothes during their annual “Heart and Sole” benefit. The children, who are in area foster care, received gift cards Aug. 4 to be spent at the Easley Walmart and Academy Sports and Outdoors, which helped sponsor the
event. The Friends of PCGAL raised approximately $13,000 during the fund drive, and 100 percent of the money went directly to aid the children. The organization was established to fill the gap of financial needs for foster care children. The Easley Fire Department was also on hand showing off some of its equipment and talking fire safety. • Andersons set date for annual reunion
