Freedom of information

I was shocked to hear the discussion and proposal at the March 6th Pickens County Council meeting. The attempt to punish Councilman Saitta’s freedom of speech to his constituents was egregious. It was obvious Councilmen Bowers, Costner and Wilson do not understand The Freedom of Information Act. Section 30-4-40 states, “ A public body MAY but is not required to exempt from disclosure” certain content.

COUNTY — Pressure canning is an important, safe method of preserving low-acid foods and Clemson Extension staff are available to help South Carolina residents ensure their equipment is ready for the 2023 canning season.

Low-acid foods include meats and vegetables. The dial gauge is one important piece of pressure canning equipment. Clemson Cooperative Extension Service staff members from around the state recently were trained in how to perform accuracy checks on dial gauges to ensure the dials are properly working. SIX MILE — James Austin Mauldin Jr., 59, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at AnMed Medical Center.

LIBERTY — Pickens County’s four public high schools took to the track at Liberty High School last Tuesday for the annual Pickens County Championships. The meet proved to be a record breaking day for all four schools as they head into the home stretch of the spring season.

The big winner on the day was Daniel High School taking both the boys and girls championships for the third consecutive meet.
