Deputies looking for missing man

PICKENS — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a 28-year-old man last seen in the Sunset community last week.

Chief deputy Creed Hashe said Gabriel Bradley Hein, who weighs more than 200 pounds and has brown hair and a brown beard, walked away from his parents’ home on Wednesday, May 31. Hashe said Hein was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, brown or tan shorts and gray Crocs, and was carrying a gray backpack.

“Mr. Hein may possibly be in need for medical care due to recent episodes of paranoia and statements made to his family that he felt that people were trying to take his life,” Hashe said.

Holly Springs Center grand opening set for Saturday

Pickens honors Martin, Patterson

Pickens City Council members presented former Sen. Larry Martin with a plaque at their meeting Monday night “for his service and support to the city of Pickens.” In addition, mayor David Owens honored city employee Bryon Patterson for 20 years of service to the city.

 

Behavioral Health Services awards annual scholarships

PICKENS — During the month of May, Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County presented its two annual scholarships to Pickens County high school seniors.

Each year, the Danny Sharpe Scholarship and Charlie Hagood Scholarship are presented to a Pickens County Youth Board senior or C3 Program senior and any other Pickens County senior, respectively.

 In 1997, the Danny R. Sharpe Scholarship endowment fund was established to recognize Sharpe for his 25 years of dedicated service and leadership to the Pickens County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse as executive director.

OPGS plans meeting for

PICKENS — Want to help Cannon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary? Here is your chance to do so in a delicious way — by just enjoying dinner on Monday, June 12, at the McDonald’s in Pickens.

McDonald’s will donate a portion of sales to the auxiliary from 5-8 p.m.

 

It’s just a truck?

Saturday is a day I like to think of as a free day. Occasionally a plan will evolve to do something fun on Saturday, as opposed to work in the yard, in the house or on the computer. This Saturday was wide open for recreational opportunities, so I was ripe for some fun.

At first, I thought it would be fun to go see Wonder Woman. But after striking out on getting someone to go with me, I switched to another plan. I decided to go kayaking on Jocassee with friends.

First, I’d have to see if I could get the farm truck. It’s large enough to carry three kayaks. Fowler said he didn’t need it, as he planned to plow Saturday, so he filled it up and helped me load my kayak and paddle.
