Parkette is chamber member of the month

The Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce recently named The Parkette as its member of the month. The Parkette, located at 202F S. Catherine St. in Pickens, offers food service and catering, along with a daily restaurant that is open in Pickens Monday through Friday until 2 p.m. The Parkette’s menu features their famous barbecue along with daily specials. Chamber hoping to ID local residents who made an impression in Midlands community in 1989

PICKENS — Greater Pickens Chamber of Commerce officials have a mystery, and they need your help to solve it.

The chamber received a package of appreciation in September and has asked many in the Pickens community to help identify agroup of Pickens folks who took the extra step to help those in need more than 30 years ago.

The letter was accompanied by a beautiful matted and framed picture from the community of Dalzell, S.C. Located between Sumter and Camden, the small community was hit hard by Hurricane

Man sentenced for assaulting kids

PICKENS — An Easley man was sentenced to 45 years in prison last week after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two children.

A Pickens County jury convicted 37-year-old Jason Riley Galloway of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor on Feb. 19, 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said in a release.

Liberty school gets new name

LIBERTY — The Pickens County School Board approved Liberty Primary School as the new name of Chastain Road Elementary School on Monday night, effective at the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

The name approval follows the board’s decision last year for Chastain Road to become a primary school serving all Liberty area students in Pre-K through second grade.
