A century of service

On his 100th birthday last Thursday, Pickens Savings and Loan Director Emeritus Billy Singleton was presented with a resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives by Rep. Davey Hiott, honoring Singleton’s decades of service to the institution.

Singleton joined the Board of Pickens Savings and Loan on May 20, 1963, and served until his resignation in 2021.

Singleton was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2010 and remained in that role until his retirement. He continues to serve on the bank’s loan committee and holds the title of Director Emeritus.

PHS class of 1976 to hold 50-year reunion

PICKENS — The Pickens High School Class of 1976 will host its 50th class reunion from noon-5 p.m. May 9 at the Hagood Mill Pavilion.

The Hagood Mill Pavilion is located at 129 Hagood Mill Road in Pickens.

• UWC hosts spring market on April 18

United Wesleyan Church, located at 738 Rice Road in Easley, will host a spring market Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Set to be held in the church’s Lifeline building, the event will offer free admission.
The market will feature a variety of local vendors, bake sale, food and beverage trucks, silent auction, raffle, door prizes and bake sale.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the church’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry to help send shoeboxes filled with gifts to children around the world while sharing the love of Jesus Christ one shoebox at a time.
