Most of us have heard that having lots of money cannot buy love or bring happiness. Since I’ve never been mega-wealthy, I will trust God on this one.

New number for suicide crisis line
Across the country there is a new mental health suicide and crisis line phone number: 988. The Department of Veterans Affairs has merged services with that number to provide an additional resource for veterans to call when they’re in crisis.

UNA HUNT KELLEY WELBORN
PICKENS — Mrs. Una Hunt Kelley Welborn, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
Una was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Pickens County. She was the daughter of the late Ivey Clarence Kelley and Sophie Hunt Kelley.
Mrs. Welborn was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Walker and Flora Kelley.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Harold Patten Welborn Sr., and their two children, Catherine Welborn Ayers (Wayne) and Pat Welborn (Patti). Surviving also are her sister, Clara Anderson; her grandchildren, Emily Ayers Knowles (Jon), Kevin Welborn (Candace), Kaycee Collins and Kelley McGaha (Matt); and her great-grandchildren, Tanaliegh Taylor Smith, Taylor Knowles, Alex Knowles, Jackson Cole Welborn, Henry Cade Welborn, Ivy-Claire McGaha and one more on the way.

S.C. District 1 drops Central East Maui to keep title hopes afloat

EASLEY —After letting a six run lead slip away to force extra innings, S.C. District 1 seemed to have lost all of the momentum they built early on against Western regional champion Central East Maui on Tuesday afternoon.
However, for the second time in the tournament, District 1 was able to pull it out in extra innings behind a career day from Kaleb Owens. Infectious anemia found in SC horses
CLEMSON — Three horses have been confirmed positive for infectious anemia (EIA), the first such infection in a South Carolina animal since a donkey in Aiken County acquired the disease in 2014, state veterinarian Michael Neault said. The first case was in a quarter horse in Berkeley County and the two contact quarter horse cases were in Barnwell County.

Thanking veterans
We all know the debt we owe to our military veterans can never be fully repaid, and yet they continue tirelessly to do good work in their communities across the country. At the Aug. 1 monthly meeting of the Pickens County Historical Society Board of Trustees, president Ken Nabors presented the members of the local American Legion a plaque of recognition.
