PHS Scholar-Athletes
During Pickens High School’s varsity football game against Pendleton on Friday night at Bill Isaacs Field, the school announced its Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 3. The winner of the male Scholar-Athlete of the Week was Tucker Perry (football), nominated by Mrs. Lisa Hiott. He is the son of Lori and David Kocher. The Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week was Jesi Turner (tennis), nominated by Dr. Ginger Hicks. She is the daughter of Bart and Mandy Turner. Scholar-Athletes are nominated by their teachers for demonstrating academic excellence in the classroom. The nominations are reviewed by a committee, and a male and female fall sports recipient will be recognized at each home game this season.

EASLEY — The Easley Green Wave were hoping an emotional loss in week one to Daniel wouldn’t cost them again Friday night at home against unbeaten Seneca.

Daniel takes down Duluth for first out-of-state win since 1995

CENTRAL — The last time the Daniel High School football team played an out-of-state opponent, head coach Jeff Fruster was still playing for the Lions.
On Friday night, a streak dating back to 1995 was broken, as the top-ranked Lions topped Duluth (Ga.) by a score of 41-19 at Singleton Field for their 17th straight regular-season win.

Red Devils forced to cancel game against Landrum due to COVID

LIBERTY — After being forced to miss two of their first three games of the season due to COVID-19, the Liberty Red Devils will continue to wait once again 
this week following the cancellation of their matchup with Landrum.
The Red Devils announced the cancellation of this Friday’s game with the Cardinals in an update released last Friday.

Daniel, Easley honor hall of famers
COUNTY — After not celebrating honorees a season ago amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daniel and Easley high school athletic halls of fame recently announced their newest inductees.
Daniel, which holds inductions every two years, added eight members to its hall of fame at halftime of the Lions’ football season opener against Easley on Aug. 27.
Easley is set to honor the five members each of its 2020 and 2021 hall of fame classes at halftime of the Wave’s Sept. 17 gridiron matchup with T.L. Hanna.

Class of 1996. Participated in the 1995 Shrine Bowl. Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year in South Carolina. 1995 all-state selection. Named All-Western 3A conference his last two seasons. Starting quarterback both his junior and senior seasons. Also started at defensive back and played wide receiver as a sophomore. Guided Daniel to a 14-1 record and a state championship as a senior. Rushed 190 times for 1,121 yards and 26 touchdowns. Threw for 1,702 yards and 11 touchdowns. Earned three letters in basketball, averaging 12 points per game. Earned five track letters. Named to the honor roll during every grading period.

Ground game, stiff defense lead Flame to shutout victory
